#309803 Mid engine all motor Mirage(yep I have a problem)

Posted by robevo on 16 November 2014 - 12:43 AM

I seem to have way too much spare time so what a better way to waste it by doing another project car.
A few months ago I found a $200 mirage and we went nuts with the air hacksaw.

So as you can see we are over the hump and now I'm getting all brakes, clutch accelerator cables etc in.

Just bought me a Chromoly pipe bender and notcher too, so a bit of cage work, rear firewall behind the seat and im good to go

I flipped mine over so the boost pushes the seal lips harder to the shaft.

Nothing better than flipping something over to get the lips to seal harder on the shaft.

Exeddy clutch?
If so...most likely a spring has fallen out in between pressure plates fingers.

Well...

Will be interesting to see you attempt a very tight track in something that handles like a fridge on a removalists trolley.

#328400 "The StormTrooper" - Hillclimb/Motorkhana Special: CB Lancer GSR

Posted by ENGINR on 13 March 2016 - 02:41 AM

I've always wanted to try a bit of motorkhana/hillclimb driving but never wanted to do it in the Coupe (as it's been developed primarily for high-speed Circuit work).

I was lucky enough to get permission to purchase a cheap car to try such driving events and this little beauty came up for sale on this very forum, so after a couple of messages and phone calls with the owner, BRUSHED and I took a drive yesterday and had a look.

Suffice to say we were both impressed with what it had to offer, especially for the price, so a deal was made and one unregistered vehicle permit later I was driving it home.

Plan is to tidy it up a little bit, but not spend any unnecessary money or time on it, as the main focus needs to stay on the Coupe - only modifications will be to add some bonnet pins, a battery indicator sticker and relocate the fire extinguisher (yes! it came with a fire extinguisher!!) from the boot to the cabin and then get stuck into some skid-pan/hillclimbing/dirt work.

Specs are (some taken straight from the For Sale post):

FWD Lancer GSR with JDM 4G61T with stock TD04 turbo

King springs all round (lowered 25 mm) - but we all agree it sits lower than 25mm!! Feels really firm on the road

Koni shocks allround (adjustable front)

2 1/4 inch exhaust from turbo back - has a really nice note to it actually

Supra Intercooler

2 inch intercooler piping to manifold

Heavy Duty Clutch - pedal is quite heavy, might need to take a look at the clutch setup at some point, but that's too much like hard work at this point!

Bonus bits not mentioned were the rear whiteline swaybar and front strut brace!!

It needs a new battery as the previous owner hadn't driven it since December and it just won't hold enough charge to start the car, but for now the jumper pack will suffice!  Might also relocate the boost gauge to up on the dash (who doesn't want to see proof of "fully sic BOOST"!?) and strip the carpet.  I have a spare EVO1 steering wheel that I will probably install once I get a universal boss kit and have a genuine Ralliart gear knob that might just have to go on - well - because I can :D!

#293434 RVR suspension, handling and equipment

Posted by leon r on 29 January 2014 - 06:31 AM

Deepsouth, that is what I did in the front:

A lot has changed since I originally upgraded my Summit’s suspension. First of all, stock EVO8/9 suspension has a punishing ride! So much so, that my kids named the Summit “the bumpy car”. This wouldn’t be so bad if it gave Summit amazing handling, but it didn’t.

6E0A6E27-F86C-42A1-BAFA-47EAC10AB45D-169

In search of more front camber, I installed some EVO8/9 TEIN coilovers with camber plates! I had to do the same modification done on stock EVO8 strut conversion: welded on washers on the bottom). That improved front end ride quality and handling, plus it gave me an adjustable ride height (not to mention shedding off around 2-3 lbs per side!) However, rear end was still unbearably bumpy!

After some research, I determined that 2G DSM rear Koni shocks should work on the Summit, so I took $230 gamble… and it paid off!

078781D2-3073-41A9-B006-021D66512CF6-169

Top and bottom: EVO8 modded for 1G DSM/Summit Middle: 2G Eclipse Koni (spring purch omitted)

The fact that you can just leave out the bottom spring purch on 2G Konis make this install even easier! Otherwise, you have to cut off DSM or EVO lower spring purch.

8BA6BD92-D690-4E8C-82C4-DFB842744F79-169

The fit was perfect! But this shock is shorter, so it will not work if you have stock height spring.

In the rear, I am using stiffer (7 passenger van) springs (450lbs/in vs. sock 400lbs/in), which have 1.5 coils removed. The reduced spring length, should bring the spring rate to around 600-650lbs/in. So help stiffen up the springs even more, I installed PRC rubber spacer inside the spring. I am not sure if it is helping much (or at all), because it is loose when van just sits there, so it needs around 1” of spring compression to truly engage the rubber spacer. I suspect that those only help only at extremes of suspension travel.

#276111 lowering, why is front gaurd gap huge?!?!

Posted by Velocity Racing on 02 May 2013 - 06:34 AM

because its designed as a gravel rally car ;)
The front has more suspension travel, and as a result the guards are larger. If you were to adjust the ride height to drop the front down more that would start to play with the dynamics and not in a good way. You would be essentially be raising the rear ride height vs the front,(changing the rake), which will increase oversteer.

#207841 WTF is with the admin team

Posted by jase on 09 August 2010 - 03:59 PM

It wouldn't be a change without some controversy. :)

Thing is, we had to make the decision to close the Private section on our own. We did not move your threads without your approval, so if you don't want it visible to the public, just reply to Dean with a "No thanks, I don't want it moved to the public areas". Is that such a hard task? Oh right, of course we need some publicly visible backlash.

The fact of the matter is, when you put a photo or any other information on the internet, it's there for all to see. Just because it is in a Private Section, what does that mean exactly? When a "Private Member" from interstate who you have never met before (who realistically, in real life you wouldn't trust because you don't know them from a bar of soap) logs in and see's a cool car but can't show his friends the thread, you don't think they save the photos and send them to other friends? Upload them to other forums? ..etc?

Not to mention, the supposed vetting system we had for the Private Section was largely flawed too. "I met this guy on a cruise once, he's a good guy, add him to the Private list". We've had Private members scamming our users in the Marketplace before you know. Just because they were nice to your face doesn't mean everyone is a trustworthy character.

In addition to this, as time goes on, not everyone stays here. The admin team changes, the long time members change, the short time members change. Do we keep changing this phantom group to suit the times? No, because then the Private "elders" will hate on us for adding the newbies.

So WTF is with us? Managing a usergroup like this is just another task for the admin/mod team to do, and in all honesty we are trying to minimise the workload that we have. We all have jobs and lives outside of this forum. It's not as quick as writing a post and hitting "Post" for us. We do that and then have to reply to PMs from users that have been scammed, plan upgrades, fix problems, moderate posts, etc.

Anyway I hope that provides some insight into why the decision was made.
