    The computer..smart or not?

No and yes.... in closed loop you wouldn't be wasting fuel because the computer has already worked out the correct amount anyway. More drivel: The VR4 ecu in closed loop can compensate for up to 40% lean or 40% rich conditions. The O2 sensor in the exhaust tells the ECU if it is rich/lean...

    The computer..smart or not?

The fact that more air can move through the turbo is unrelated to the final Air/Fuel mixture. The ECU "sees" the amount of air entering the system at the MAF and adds an appropriate amount of fuel. This amount is affected by a number of factors but is calculated to be approximately...

    Magna AFM on VR4 engine

Has anyone here actually fitted a magna AFM on their VR4? what was involved other than what was mentioned on vfaq? what improvements did it make? what did you need to do with the snorkle/battery etc. Cheers, john btw: i got the software/hardware to rechip a vr4 if people need (not including...

    EOI: ECU modders wanted

WRCVR4 - you can only get the images off if its a 29CXXX (where XXX is on e of 128,256,512). Thats the only chip it supports.

    EOI: ECU modders wanted

Ok, times up. If everyone interested could message me with contact numbers or addresses I can start getting these out to people. I would prefer pickup but don't mind posting (cause im slack) Cheers, john

    EOI: ECU modders wanted

baz: The software is evil scribe http://freshmeat.net/projects/evilscribe/ and tunerpro http://tunerpro.markmansur.com/screenshots.htm tharaka: Just to let you know how easy it is. I have already got a chip that has the following features: 1. Extended fuel maps = ECU able to "read" realiably...

    EOI: ECU modders wanted

Hia peoples, I'm interested in getting a small sub-community of ECU modders together. The idea is to build the local (i.e. non-commercial) knowledge base to help other 4G drivers. I have nothing against people who commercially sell these sort of things, its just the information is available for...

    Stutter box

I can't be sure. I have no emperical evidence but perhaps I know it makes my launches more constant and reproducable 8) The ECU mod doesn't require running a separate clutch switch. The code is analgous to the following: if (speed == 0) set rev_limit = 5000; else if (clutch == IN) set...

    Stutter box

Hey all, I just got my car socketted yesterday. Got stutter box + no lift to shift + a few other goodies. It just feels weird working up the gears with the accelerator flat to the floor. MAD: If you can get yours read and can probably mod it & burn it for u. Cheers, John

    Fuel trim question

Its only done about 2.5k km since last service.

    Fuel trim question

I did a trip to the Grampians over the weekend. Nice trip and all but I calculated the vr4 was doing something like 13.5L/100km. I thought it was a bit less than that for h/w driving. My fuel trims were rich: FTL: 137% FTM: 120% FTH: 120% Other contributing factors/notes: The...

    30 dollar boost controller????

I got one of these as well..... Definitely not a 'pos'. The design is actually from vfaq i think. The pic i got with the kit looks like a straight copy of the schematic in vfaq. Works quite well. Better than a bleeder ... not as good as electronic but for 30 bucks WHO CARES!. YMMV

    No more phantom knock

Hi guys, as you might have gleaned from alot of my previous posts i have been having probs with knock. I had done quite a few things to try and eliminate but all to no lasting effect. last sunday (after the drive-in 'cruise') i started the car only to find smoke coming out of the engine bay...

    Gearbox reconditioning

That 'other' guys name is Zac... red hair dude. Everything i have had done at Techsport has been done right the first time. I can't say the same for any other shop i have been to - but perhaps im just unlucky.

    Fuel pump rewire review

Damn it ! Back to square one. I thought i had this problem wrapped up but something else must be wrong. Its still knocking now and sometimes worse than before in that its completely variable. I was coming up to a turn at part throttle (around 2.5 k rpm) 7% inj cycle and the knock sensor was...

    02 sensors and aftermarket ECU's

WOT = wide open throttle. Although in the sentence where it is used you should read "open loop" ie you have 'tripped' the neccessary conditions whereby ecu moves from auto adjusting (closed loop) to ignoring O2 input (open loop). It doesn't have to happen at WOT. If rpm > 4000 then it will...

    Fuel pump rewire review

Yeah, saw those in jaycar...... my dream was to have 8 gauge all the way. This was pretty stupid when you see the size of the power lead to the fuel pump. (20 gauge??) Anyways, just as a side note. I noticed my fuel low light comes on just dimly now all the time. Its possible this is a by...

    Fuel pump rewire review

Thanks baz. But wouldn't battery in boot still require running an even larger gauge (4 or 2?) though to the engine bay? not to mention still having to do all the work for the wiring of the relay?
