You can have a good look at mine if u want... just let me know
In my evo the gears are as short as hell, but nice and close, so when u rip another gear you dont drop many revs at all...
I did a 500km round trip on the highway, with only a couple of squirts (passing cars etc) @ 100km/h in a a...
AS was said, run a pod, block off the bov and it will "flutter"
probably wont sound like a VL as such, but it will be simlar.
My evo does it, and as soon as I can afford a good plumb back its going on there... It gets annoying, really fast....
I also drove the GOR on monday nite from geeong to warnambool. Great roads, but my tires were fried by the end of it, and my brakes were well... spongy...
Not to be rude, and I am far from the best driver, but you get one of 20 cars on this... one with brake fade and u got disaster :S...

This is my evo with pedders and stocko 15's
Woot!
Maybe I will get 200 myself :D
You could do it fairly cheaply in that 21 odd psi of boost, set of cams, and a SAFC... mebbe some 560cc injectors...
If it were me, i would spend a bit more coin, nice tune, less boost and save your engine a bit.
