    Strange problem?

Long shot but my car had problems with stalling, hesitating under acceleration...which resolved after turning the thing off and letting it sit for a bit. Turned out my fuel tank was filthy. Quick test, take off your fuel filter and see what colour the fuel is thats in it. Mine was reddish brown...

    Timing belt replacement question

    Timing belt replacement question

That's good to know. I checked the belt anyway and realised i stuffed up. Like an idiot i tightened the crank bolt with the screwdriver in the side of the block thinking i could get the required torque holding the balance shaft in place. Turned out the oil pump sprocket had jumped 2 teeth...

    Timing belt replacement question

Tried this but the 63 alternator bolt is too long, won't fit. I finished doing the timing belt, took the car for a drive and everything seems ok. But my paranoia is now getting the better of me and I'm fighting the urge to take the front cover off again to check it's all hunky dory. The space...

    Timing belt replacement question

Having a problem with the crankshaft main sprocket. The previous owner had snapped a bolthead leaving only 3 bolts holding the harmonic balancer. I thought i would be able to get the remains of the bolt out of the sprocket but 3 drill bits later...actually i tried one of those reverse bits that...

    Timing belt replacement question

Cheers guys. Will see how i go. I just exposed all timing components and found the previous owner snapped a bolt on the balancer. Was going to change seals while i'm in there so crank pulley is coming off anyway. If i can't get the snapped bolt out with a pair of pliers i may have to drill it...

    Timing belt replacement question

I'm just about to do the timing belt on my car and i just need to know if i need to buy a 1/4" drive tension wrench. How critical is it to torque the tensioner pulley to the correct setting using the special tool, or am i able to get it back as close as possible to it's original postion and...

    Searching issue

Yep i just got a secondhand cas in the mail that i'm going to rebuild. I don't think it would be my fiav valve as i removed it from the tb and used a block off plate. Is this the fiav valve? Maybe my block off plate is leaking. I'll replace cas and check ground wires and see what happens then.

    Searching issue

The wiring is all good. I haven't put the multimeter on it because i never get the problem at home. It always happens when i'm in traffic. It's a good point though, worth looking into. Just wondering what the wax pellet in the fiav is. I've blocked the fiav with a meek block off plate using rtv...

    Searching issue

At 60km/h yes. Going past speed cameras can be a pain. On the highway i'm around the 3000rpm at 100-110km/h...but the car is fine at this speed. I've blocked my fiav. What is this wax pellet you speak of? Never heard of it My car has no idle control. The tuner apparently enriched for start...

    Searching issue

I have an issue of searching with my car i'm hoping someone could shed some light on. It's a vr4 engine, microtech computer, 044 fuel pump, 560cc evo8 injectors and i'm using the BPR7ES plugs with magnecor leads and coils/transistor were new 4 months ago. Now it's only an intermittent problem...

Rebuilding a vr4 cam angle sensor

This is the style cas i'm going on about. Here it is in bits. You can see the oil seal and bearing that can be replaced. Shaft has a collar on it. I should have measured this gap with a feeler gauge before i took it apart. You can see i didn't get the collar all the way in. Oil seal...

Rebuilding a vr4 cam angle sensor

Got the seal and bearing needed from CBC. Seal number is TC12395 - $7.70 Bearing number is 6200LLU - $8.80 How much would you like for the gen 1 cas? The bearing looks like it's going to be a pain to get on the shaft. Would be good to have a spare in case i stuff it.

Rebuilding a vr4 cam angle sensor

I've got the gen 1 style then with the lead and 4 pin plug. I managed to get the shaft out of the buggered one without taking out the roll pin. It took a bit of banging but it came out. This is the part i'm most worried about when re-installing. I'm about to head out to cbc to see if they can...

Rebuilding a vr4 cam angle sensor

G'day, Did a bit of searching, not much info. Just wondering if anyone's done this. Mine is leaking oil and it's not from the o-ring. I took an old buggered one apart to see what the story is and it's likely it's just the oil seal, which means the cas will have oil all through it. Car's got an...

    Coil pack question

I'm sure this question is noob but..... Can you swap between a coil pack with tacho interface with a coil pack without tacho interface? I'm thinking it'll be no problem, just my tacho won't work. It's a VR4 engine running a microtech MT8. Picture not the clearest, they're both oriented the...
