Sounds like a balance shaft is 180 deg out, you need to rotate the oil pump sprocket another full turn ... You can have the marks all lined up but if a screwdriver doesn't go into the side of the block, your oil pump sprocket needs to be rotated. That's the situation with my car. Bit of a bitch...

How do you locate TDC on piston 1's intake stroke for the purposes of setting the timing?

Well the clutch is nice now, goes all the way to the floor :-) Just have to fix up the engine vibration ... might chuck a pod filter on, where's a good place to get an adaptor?

Like the Davies Craig ones? Possibly ... I've got one I could try to fit but it looks pretty tight in there. I could fit another one on the engine side of the radiator since there's no AC fan there. Have no need for it though the car never gets over 2/5 on the temp gauge.

I'll do the timing belt at home :-) It won't be anywhere near as much of a b#@*! as the clutch was.

You know I thought to write the numbers down but then I didn't ... :roll: I guess if it's an Evo 1 it could either be a big or a small 16G but I suppose it doesn't really matter. I'll see if I can check the numbers from the top without removing anything again.

Hi Dane, There is not much clearance mate ... It's pretty much between the welded mount where the original grille fits, and at the bottom there is about an inch of clearance between the front bar lip and the intercooler. I'll grab some pics later on today if I get the chance ;-)

G'day, After success with the clutch issue on my GSR, it's now on to fixing the vibration. One thing though ... in hindsight it might have been better to pay someone $500-600 labour to do that!! URGH! The last remaining issue is vibration. There's very little at idle, but I get a few sizzles...
