HI Guys

I have a 01 CE2 Lancer Wagon with the single cam 4g93, and am wanting to bolt on a TD03 that I have lying around of Dads Forestor.

I know the TD03 is small but it will suit me perfectly as i am not/will not be running huge amounts of boost (7-10 psi) and anything more than that thorugh an NA block will start destroying things rather quickly.

As far as im aware i will be requiring:
Manifold
Front mount cooler
Piggy back Ecu
some sort of torque sensing LSD

Ideally it would be good to swap a 4693t in from a GSR but illegal to swap in an engine older than the car, in Queensland at least, and am wanting a stock looking engine bay as possible to avoid as much hassle as possible from the police.

Am wanting input on the technical side of things and other requirements or recomendations for the conversion.

Thanks in advance.

what about a CM5A gsr engine? Not sure what year they were produced to, but may be worth a look.

if not, and you just want to turbo your engine add to your list:

injectors
fuel pump
heavy duty clutch
intake pipe
full exhaust, or minimum dump and front pipe
oil and water lines for the turbo

you won't need an lsd, but it's probably not a bad idea.

have fun!

Pretty confident it was all CE wagons.

We are digressing somewhat from Xed's original post. Xed, do you mean a td-04 from a Forrester?
As oggy pointed out, clutch will be necessary. It will be the first item to go after the conversion.
You will also need to upgrade your fuel system; pump, injectors and a fuel pressure regulator (depending on what pump you use, the stock reg may begin to struggle). Given that you are looking down the aftermarket ecu path you will be able to suitably tune.
I thought that finding a mitsi head flange manifold with the subaru turbo flange would be difficult... turns out it isnt:

Short of rebuilding everything, there is very little that you can do to stop the engine from going bang. If your engine doesn't, then your gearbox may. Not saying that it will, but keep the boost low (your range noted above is what would be recommended) and you are giving yourself a fighting chance.

Yeah, the 4g in all the lancer wagons for some reason are all flipped for some reason compared to that of the coupe and sedan of the CE2's. We discovered this when we bought a set of extractors several years ago and they didnt fit aha.

I thought i would need a new clutch as it wouldnt be able to handle the strain any recommendations as to which? With regards to brand and quality etc?.

With injectors and oil lines etc, are the majority of parts off the CC GSR interchangeable with my 4g93 as it is essentially the same? Except the lower compression and dual cam obviously.

Also im leaning more towards an Lsd as it will skip in the wet especially if theres people inside or any kind of resonable load.

Also this has only got to last approximately for 2 years until i can afford to buy an actual Evo.

Cheers for the detailed and quick responses

bugger about the orientation, that kinda wrecks that idea!
good find on that manifold though! kando, and cast.... that'd be the one I go for!

with regards to the clutch. I'd probably just go an exedy heavy duty organic, or cushion button. both fine to drive on the street, easy to order/buy and should hold fine. but have a search on the forum as there are a few good others that people recommend a fair bit.
Not sure about the injectors / fuel pump interchangability. definately worth a look though.
As for the oil lines, I seriously doubt it. The standard oil feed comes from head, exhaust manifold side near the back.
The standard oil drain goes straight into the sump. so unless you have blanking plugs in both these locations (doubtfull) then no you won't be able to. also the turbo will probably sit in a different position, so the lines probably won't fit anyway.
Custom lines are pretty easy to get made though :)

The LSD is a good idea, but I would think is either going to be the hardest to find or one of the dearest parts. My last car was FWD with a lot more power and torque than you'll make with no LSD. You just gotta get used to driving it :p

xed with vsb 14 coming into effect on November 1 the rules you know are changing it may be possible for you to install a cd5a gsr engine provided the emissions standard the car was tested to is the same.

under vsb 14 this would probably require certification under LA1 and LT3

LA1 engine substitution
LT3 emissions test im240

put on a couple of cats to pass the test and all sweet

cc gsr injectors should be fine - very cheap and readily avaliable.
Upgrading to a walbro could be a bit of an overkill (however a new pump is never a bad thing). You may be able to pick up a late model evo pump.

Thought I might bring this up again.

Unfortunately i wrote this wagon of at the start of this year, so i never got around to doing the conversion.

Last weekend though i picked up another wagon with a 4g93t already in it, microtec lt10, evo seats/kit/front brakes, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I picked it up cheap as it would turn over but not start and the body is pretty shagged, looked into once i got it home turns out the timing belt is missing some teeth and timings out by about 8 notches. Ill check it some more but im going on the assumption that i have bent valces and will need to rebuild the head.

What im wondering is am I able to use my orginal single cam 4g93, bolt on the turbo manifold, injectors etc and dump it in another lancer? As ive found another cheap wagon that could be a suitable recipient.

Thanks in advance guys.

it will work but keep the microtech and get it retuned there a user over on evo coupe who has done a sohc turbo conversion and used all the gsr stuff includeing a customized CAS
