300RPM noises and no power...

Just bought a 89 VR4 RS (No 4WS). It sounds great...until you get to 3000RPM then it gets louder and louder and takes forevr to egt to 6000. Any ideas?

No it doesn't missfire, how do i check if the cat is blocked?
Found it on ebay originally , has no pwr anything even ahve to move the mirrors by hand, but suppsoed t have bigger injectors & turbo etc, still getting it complianced so havent had a chance to play yet though.
