4g62 1800 turbo

Hey guy

I got my cordia last year sometime from a friend and he tracked us down a 4g62 to get it back on the road (thanks craig) I my self not knowing much about car had to rely on my brother and friends to do it after about 3 months of the motor sitting there and tracking down a AC computer and loom (that was fried) no wonder the guy droped it off for me we finaly put it all back together and put it in to the cordia.

After all that when we tried to start it it had no compresstion not wanting to mess around with it desided to go the vr4 4g63 option cause it originaly had one in it a loss of funds and unable to find one ready to go in the cordia with every thing we needed left the car sitting for a furth 9 months give or take. Costing me money while it is sitting there having to pay car rego i just want to see the little car on the road this is where you guys come in im just going to go back to the 4g62 we put new rings in it along with pistons and thru it in the car it has no compression and sounds like a electric drill when we tried to start it i know that is not much info for yous and if you do comment wanting to know more ill do my best please HELP!!!

I had to read that a couple of times...

you have done a re-ring and have no compression is that the issue? was the block honed before you re-assembled?

is the cam timing correct.....bent valves?

From what i know it has been bored and honed befor or are they the same thing? it block and head was rebuilt from the guy we brough it off all we had to do was put new rings and pistons it tht came with it put the head back on and put it in the cordia as for cam timing or bent valves i wouldnt know? how do i go about finding out?

do a compression test, bad compression value=...bent valves or a ring problem.

i would check your cam timing,also if your head is original cordia then check your valve clearance,could be holding valves open.they should be manual adjustment and have clearance.

okay um how do i check the cam timing and do a compression test? correct me if im wrong but dosnt the car have to be started to do a compression test? and the head and block are AC 4g62 like i said from what i was told the engine and head was reconed and i believe the block was bored/honed thanks alot for helping me every one

no just crank the motor over to do compression test,i think from memory that cordias are about 145psi.
now to check the cam timing you need to turn the motor to top dead center and then take off the top cam cover.on the cam gear wheel you should see a notch/mark on the left side of the wheel looking at it straight on.this should line up with another notch on the head that is just under the top of the head where the rocker cover seals,does that make sense?
if the cam gear is 180degrees out just turn the motor over again to top dead center because the motor does 2 turns to 1 turn of the cam.then check again.

question how do i get the pistons to top dead center?

take one out of the engine and put it in the middle of the roof..........???



align the timing marks on the front engine cover, you should see a mark that says tdc. that is the pistons at the top of their stroke. now you need to check that it is aligned in the number one position, so check that the valves are closed on number one.....you will need to remove the cam cover to do this. if number one is closed and number four is a little open then you should be right.

this work on most four cyl engines
