hey all I brought my cordia off a mate and he told me when he brought it that 4th and 5th gear are the same so it there is no 5th gear really because its still in 5th. he told me its some stupid diaphragm on the box that when u shift into 5th it opens the diaphragm and puts it into 5th or overdrive mode. it still uses the cordia box on the 4g63. can someone point me in the right direction

The Cordia gearbox is similar to the first gen Magna's, it basically is a 4 speed with two input gears. If anyone is old enough they would remember the first Mitsubishi colt ad on TV with it's "power" and "economy" gearshift which was a second gearshift to shift the input gear from low range to high range. On Cordia's the use low range 1st to 4th then when you select 5th the vac diaphragm shifts the input gear to high range while in 4th(hence 5th gear). When the vac lines are not hooked up correctly you will not shift into 5th(high range 4th). As a bit of fun you can directly swap the vac lines around and run high range for all gears which gives you 70km from 1st gear and 120km from 2nd gear.

if no one has touched your vac hoses then you should have a large solenoid with two hoses going to the vacuum actuator, then one hose from the solenoid goes to a canister(this is an accumulator for the vacuum actuator so it has enough vacuum if you were boosting and need to change into 5th gear) and then from the canister there is a hose that connects to your intake manifold, on the 4G63 motor you can tee into your brake booster as you usually are not selecting 5th gear at the same time as braking , so there will be enough vacuum to operate it.

try'd everything with still no 5th I don't know if I have the the right way. also there is a plug coming from the solenoid with 2 wires and theyarnt hooked up do I need to have them hooked up for it to work?

Without having any idea about this particular system, I'm going to say yes, you need them hooked up for the solenoid to operate and subject the diaphragm to the vacuum source...
