4g63 swap in wa

Hey guys really wondering is the 4g63 classed as a manufacturers optional engine?
If so, would I need a permit for an engine swap into my gsr? Not only that but would I need to upgrade anything else aswell?

Have you looked up the WA Roads and Transport website and had a look at what they have to say? Here in Vic we would talk to a VASS Engineer who could say what needed to be done to be in compliance with the rules.

In NSW you can fit a 4G63T engine in a 1.8T GSR without issues as its only a 200cc increase in engine capacity. Hundreds of people have done it considering the GSR is the Auspec version of an EVO I-III.0
HOWEVER, some states may be different, and some vehicle inspection stations may say that its a different class of engine... ie 4G9x vs 4G6x and ask for an engineer certificate.
As long as you can fit it and make it look like stock and oem with pollution controls in place, you should be fine. BUT speak to a 'blue slip' equivalent shop first as it can be simply done as an engine swap and change of engine number on your rego papers.

A couple of years ago all you had to do was ring up and say that you had changed your engine and quote the new engine number. They would then change it and it would be on your next rego invoice. Not sure about now though ?? There is probably 10 forms to fill out

Many minor vehicle modifications can be carried out without specific approval, as long as they comply with the applicable legislation. Modifications that don’t require approval include:

• Additional lighting
• Air conditioners
• Air shock absorbers
• Alarm systems
• Badge bars
• Body markings and speed striping
• Gearbox (pre 1976)
• Mesh stone shields for wind screens and lamps
• Mud spats and pebble guards
• Optional manufacturer seating
• Radio and stereo systems
• Rear-view mirrors
• Roof racks
• Seat belts for pre 1969 cars (no full harness types)
• Single tone air horns
• Stabiliser bars
• Sunvisors
• Torque rods and traction bars (not semi-tramp types)
• Tyre size and aspect ratio
• Venetian blinds and other internal screening systems are allowed, subject to a clear view to the rear.
