Hey guys,
Looking at some stuff to play with, looking for a 4G64 bottom end, in the 7 bolt style like evo/rvr style motor? anyone got any idea what these come from? havent had much of a chance to go to a wrecker to look through. a mate of mine has a nimbus style one thats a 6 bolt vr4 style block and crank. didnt know if they changed for there later models or something? anyone know? i know the US guys have models over there they can use. but dont know of any in Aust i can get my hand on.

I will share what I think there is...
I haven't actually looked physically, just researched online.
For starters I thought the nimbus was 7 bolt....
So there is 6 and 7 bolt nimbus?
2.4 exPress, I thought they were also mostly 7 bolt but appears to be 6 bolt jobs too.
All are single cam and require the oil returns in the block blOcked off. (unless you thinking of a later evo head conversion like jayrome)

I personally will be researching the 2000+ sonata as they are a mitsi based engine in 2.4 size. But there is very little information regarding these.

Please share your findings, especially regards vr4 style roll stop mounts and driveshaft support lugs on the block. Also wide or narrow blocks

Hey mate.
1991-1992 UF Nimbus with the crappy looking alloy rocker cover and 8-valve head is the 6 bolt 4G64 SOHC EFI engine. They are the harder engines to find in the Nimbus.
BUT all UF Nimbus from 1993-1998 had the nicer rocker cover with 16 valve written on them. All these Nimbus' have the 7-bolt 4G64 2.4 SOHC EFI engine. This is the engine the majority of UF Nimbus' came out with.
Your mate has the rare 6-bolt which is probably only 5% of all the UF Nimbus 2.4's out there. Go look under the bonnet of another UF Nimbus as odds are in your favour. :)

Actually, any 2-tone UF Nimbus in the face-lift model and chrome grille pre 1998 is guaranteed to have the 7-bolt 4G64. So at the wreckers to save time, look for two tone colour that has silver at the bottom, plus a chrome grille and its 100% certain. (Although my 1993 UF Nimbus is all colour coded white with white and black grille and its got the 7-bolt engine). Anyhow, here's the pics to tell the difference :)

Heres a pic of the 6-bolt 4G64 8-valve engine in a 91-92 UF Nimbus. Note the bare alloy rocker cover and 2 large bolts in the middle of the rocker cover:

Heres a pic of the 7-bolt 4G64 16-valve engine in a 93-98 UF Nimbus. Note it is a newer style rocker cover with a breather hose out of the top, plus it has the words '16-valve' on it:

Just look for a UF Nimbus like this 2-tone model with chrome grille for instant success.
Although it will also pay to look under the bonnet of the non 2-tone/ chrome grille models too - just look for the 16v engine as above :) :
