so i am forging a 4g93 and have been recommended to use a n/a block to eliminate the oil squirters, i have a glxi with an 1.8 sohc engine, is this block i want or does it need to be from a n/a dohc?

and what is the benefit of no oil squirters?

thanks

ian

The SOHC block wouldn't have oil squirters.
You can bolt the DOHC head onto it or leave it SOHC.
Without the oil squirters there is more oil pressure supplied to the bearings.

Ok cool, so all the dohc parts will run on the Sohc block?
I'll tear that down and have it machined up :)
If use that block with the dohc parts will I need to mix up stuff from gasket kits or will the hole dohc kit fit up

Well the motor is still in the car so maybe I should pull off the covers and inspect it a bit 1st, is having no oil squirters actually worth pulling down a whole nother motor or is it just prefered when you are buying a block?

SOHC and 4g93t DOHC blocks are physically identical, bar the water outlet for the heat exchange thingy inbetween the oil filter and block on a 4G93t. SOHC or 93P blocks wont have oil squirters like the 93t blocks do.

In regards to kms, if you're going to rebuild the motor to accept your new forged pistons, then you'd obviously have to bore and hone the block to suit your new pistons anyway.. if done correctly, you'll have no problems.

Thanks for the reply mate, yea regarding the water lines, that's ok because I run an external oil cooler which I assume that's what those lines and plate are for.... And yea I was just unsure if km's would effect the integrity of the block, if this isn't the case I'll start pulling that one out and get it apart :)
