Hi Guys,

I've been hoovering forums for ages and I cannot get a straight answer on this:

is the engine block bolt pattern (where the bellhousing fits) compatiable between a 4G93 and an evo 1-3 (4G63)?
and by compatiable i don't care about flywheels or starters etc- just can I sling a 4G93 (or 4G94) gearbox with integral bellhousing onto the back of a 4G63 early evo block?

reason I ask is I have a 4G94 in my pajero io which is RWD and the bellhousing is part of the gearbox case (cannot be removed) and I'm looking to put an evo grade block in as the inlet/exhaust will match my pajero io .

There is at least 2 different blocks. Wide bolt and narrow bolt. They are not interchangeable.
But the evo1-3 and the 1.8 gsr are the same bolt pattern.

But your 94 may be different to the evo1-3.
But it may be the same as the late evo that is different to the early evo.

Some say thet you can just measure the distance between the top 2 bolts, but I have also read that this is not conclusive and that you have to measure the bottom 2 bolts (hence me saying there is at least 2 variations.

I cant remember the actual measurement tho.

There are gurus here that will know what you have and what will fit tho.
Cheers

ER,

there are no top two bolt holes!!!!

I've answered my own question - looks like my block has a SINGLE top bolt hole that is offset to the exhaust side slightly,

The bottom two holes are a pair and sit horizontally opposed
The next pair up are also horizontally opposed

above this the starter complicates things on one side and the other is asymetric, the top bolt hole is offset from center by about 1/2"

weird!

Bugger....

Just grabbed some bellhousing to block bolt patterns from Mitsu parts database.

This is a great way to search for wide vs narrow 4G63 blocks - useless to find something to suit a paj io ;)
