I know it sounds a bit Frankenstein, or a long way about doing things, but hear me out.

A while back I bought a 4G63 engine, and a VR4 ECU, which I planned on fitting into my CC GSR Lancer.

The ECU had been socketed by ECM Tuning, prior to me selling the 4G63 engine, in preparation for their ECM Link Lite V3 package

However, due to financial constraints, I ended up selling the engine, but still have the VR4 ECU.

Now, I know a popular mod for GSRs is to run an E3 ECU, injectors and AFM.

If I want to go down this upgrade path, I'm wondering if I could get ECM Tuning to fit a new chip with the factory E3 settings, in place of having to source a "genuine" E3 ECU?

It depends ... firstly, have you got a VR4 loom, or an Evo 3 loom ? Is the engine a VR4 or Evo 3 ? At the end of the day the engine doesnt
really matter, as a VR4 loom and ECU will make both run.

Secondly, theres not really a calibration map for Evo3 that is "better" than a VR4 map. The tune is optimized for whatever configuration you have.

Come around and see me if you need some advice... I'm the unofficial ECM Tuning agent in Adelaide. As well I have their chips and hardware here etc

Cheers Mike

Thanks for that, will do!

I have a 4G93T with a GSR wiring loom. The only thing that wouldn't be stock CC GSR would be the VR4 ECU itself, plus the Evo 3 supporting mods I'd use with the VR4 ECU (510cc injectors & AFM)

Why does it have to be a "Genuine" Evo III ECU? An Evo I or II ECU will do the same job on a 4G93T. Can be found for as little as $100NZ, wouldn't be hard to get someone to locate and send one over.

Sorry, didn't mean it "had" to be Evo 3. That's just what I'm familiar with in terms of reading posts on here about this modification upgrade.

As I pointed out in my first post, I don't really care what it is, as long as it will connect with the least hassles and will do what I need it to do!

I have Evo 1 ,2, and 3 ECUs, VR4 ECUs and GSR ECU's in stock if you are struggling to find any ..... I reckon it would be easier for you to use the GSR/EVO ECU (GSR is essentially the same as an EVO ecu). As you already have the GSR loom keep it that way... and use the EVO AFM ( or a Magna 055 AFM). Or be tricky and run no AFM and the Speed Density function within the ECM software ( fair bit more work to tune though !)
