5 Stud Conversion

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

the front brake kits do look pretty good, cheap too.

shame they wont fit in 15's

the rear rotor upgrade looks good too

+postage + taxes that would come to about $1.5k right?

probably cheaper to use fto / gto hubs to convert
how much is your time worth?

if you dont want to fuck around with having things not fit, then this is ideal

why does noone realise that FTO's are front wheel drive...

^^ afew people have done 5-stud convo's here on their GSR's.
I'm assuming they used FTO hubs since GTO's or late model evo would be too rare/expensive to get a hold of.

I have now finished my 5 stud conversion. I have cleaned and painted the front and rear hub carriers in grey hammertone paint. Pressed in new bearings and seals all round. The front hubs are from a 1G Mitsubishi Eclips from the States (Magna TS hubs can also be used, DOH). The rear uses later model Magna hubs because the bearings in the rear of an EVO are wider than the fronts, there for if you use a hub from the front and press it into the rear bearing, I would have been left with a 6mm gap. So I sused out the later model hubs which suit a wider bearing , closer to the GSR/EVO rear bearings. The only problem with this is that the later Magna's run a 27 spline CV joint, and the lancer runs a 25 spline joint and the drive shaft its self is 22 spline, SO, I now needed to find a CV joint witha 27 spline outer, that would accept a 22 spline shaft, as it turnes out a outer CV joint for a Subaru Liberty will fit with some minor mechiening. The good news is that I can now bolt my 18's to the car. Stay tuned for pics soon. basicly the 5 stud conversion is a pain in the but, but worth it in my eyes. 5 spoke wheels just dont look right drilled for 4 studs, and also, with the sort of power I am after, the 5 stud will be much stronger.

 FTO/Magna 5 stud hubs do fit onto GSR/EVO's up front, regardless that they are FWD - they do fit and work. It's the rears that GSR/EVO owners have the headache with. Some guys like Rob Barac ended up redrilling the rear hubs to 5 stud as we dont have a direct bolt on replacement from another car that'll work. The only other option rather than redrilling the rears would be to buy the Japanese ones as per the first thread but it's pretty expensive when you add up the total costs IMO.

It would have to be done by a metal fabrication/engineering workshop as all 5 holes would have to be spot on centred on the circumference of a circle in the exact spot for each stud.

no mate, as EVO-00X says, its probably best to get an engineer to do it

pfffft... as if  I can imagine a guy out the back with a hand drill and what you end up with is 5 elongated holes and a ride similar to a clown's bike going up and down
