Hi all,

I'm soooo close to finsihing the Evo 2 engine swap into my Aus spec GSR. Next week or the week after she is in for a tune and it will almost be done, but I want the A/C running too.

I purchased an a/c compressor kit from RevZone, and the compressor and lines are now fitted. I need to fit the belt to the compressor though and I'm not having any luck in getting the right belt.

I called Meek and was advised to get part number 4PK940 - this didn't fit. I was advised by Mitsubishi that I needed part number 4PK920 and this also didn't fit. These belts seem to be too small for what I need, so I was wondering:

1) Has anybody fitted one/replaced theirs? If so, what part number did you use?
2) I have an Evo 2 motor and I think the compressor is an Evo 3 one. Are there any differences in the required belt between Evo 1-3?

Any help would be appreciated, because there is only so many times I can return the belt and ask for an alternative part!

Thanks,
Chris

edit: sorry...should have used the parts database thread. Can a mod please move this?

ok here the break down of the part number

4pk = number of ribs
940 = length in mm

so when meek told you 940 and mitsy told you 920 mitsy one was actualy shorter.

i would suggest maybe going up to a 960 or 980.

I put one on my Evo just last week...I used the 4pk940. 100% sure no ifs or buts....
Meek knows what he is talking about don't worry about that.He works on Evos all day every day.
Have you loosened the tensioner right off, Im guessing this is what's giving you dramas.
I WOULD not use a longer belt, as you will not have enough movement in the tensioner to take up the slack...I know this for sure,no guessing involved...

Meek part numbers are fine. Ive bought heaps of belt kits from them for EVO and VR4 engine. The aircon has its own tensioner pulley that needs loosening up before you fit the belt.
Its also got to travel the correct direction to fit properly.
Have another go at it with the aircon pulley loose. You will have to actually remove the aircon pulley bracket to feed the belt through it, then bolt the pulley bracket back on (12mm bolts in really dicky spots once in the car).

wasn't saying part no's were wrong mainly just comenting on what the numbers mean.

the second bit of advice is assuming he tried to install it properly and has larger pully's etc (if it an aftermarket unit it's possible)

Thanks for the help everybody.

I must have some sort of aftermarket pulley somewhere because it's definitely not going to fit, even with the tensioner loosened up :(

Time to play guesswork!

Chris
