Hi hi. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem??
The other day I got in my car just to move it. The abs light flashed then went off, it then just came on and stayed on. I thought it was strange. I stopped the car and could hear what sounded like a pump running. I started and stopped the car again, but it kept making the noise. I checked under the bonnet and found the abs thingy ( I think that's it's technical name) was vibrating. I tried taking out the fuse for the abs but nothing happened. The only way it stopped was to disconnect the battery. When I connected it the next day, the vibrating had stopped but the abs light stays on.
I've taken it to auto sparky, but they can't find the fault. They think a relay failed. And think the abs thingy (pump) has shit itself, as it's only ment to run for a few seconds.
Any advice would be great. Any idea of the cost of a new abs thingy.
Cheers

theres a black box next to the pump, inside that theres a relay as it gets old its not making contract properly, when it buzz again just give it a moderate tap.
well thats what happened to mine and i replaced the relay with another and its all good now
not 100% sure but you might have to same problem

Cheers. I tapped everything that looked like a relay. I'll talk to the sparky again, I'll just get them to change it anyway.
I hope it's just the relay. I can't imagine the abs unit is cheap to replace.
Fun fun. More $$$ and no faster. Lol

I'm going to be pulling one out in a month or so. If you end up needing one, let me know.

I have several in the shed of the complete units but you shouldn't need it. Bleed the brakes till you get fresh fluid and give the alloy section in between the lines several sharp raps with the handle of a hammer.... Not the metal bit. It is probably just some shit stuck in side

Cheers guys. Well the sparky couldn't find the fault. It wouldn't do it again. Typical. It's working now. The light still flashes when I start the car. He said it's not ment to. But I think it always has??

Also he thinks my ecu may have caused it. He said it wouldn't give any code, or talk to any of his thingys. He thinks some how it kept power going to the unit when the key was off.
He also found my check engine light wasn't working. Bugger. Ya kinda need that. It was replaced.
Was funny telling the wife my ecu has a problem and needs to be fixed, so I may as well upgrade.
Fun fun. Mo money mo money.

is it an evo or gsr ecu because not all scanners will read them i went through 3 different scanner before i found one that'll read my evo ecu

It's a gsr ecu. For now. Do you happen to remember what scanner worked?
I'll give the hammer thing a go. It's pissed me off. If anything it will help me.

snap on solus pro

when you look up under the dash does your car have just one pin in the white connector near the fuse box or multiple? if it only has one you will likely find an obd2 connector next to the hood latch release. if this is the case you have to use BOTH connectors at the same time.

with the above type socket you can bridge the two circled pins and read the code that way with a led light (or maybe from the cel on the dash not sure never done it since my car is weird )

this one has more than one pin it should work on it's own if however as i said yours only has one pin you car is like mine and needs both used.

Yeah only one pin and looks like an obd2 connector. Ok. I'll try and get back to the sparky next week. Or should I get a solus pro? Not that I know how to use it.
Has anyone used there obd2 plug with one a wireless adaptor to send data to like an app? I saw one in a brz who was using an ipad as a deck. It was really cool.

sure go buy a solus pro you got 8k laying around?

there are others that'll read it aswell but the trikcy thing is you have to use both at the same time not many people know this even mikey didn't know until i told him about mine.

preety sure it uses the mutII protocol once you've got both plugged with the correct pin config for the tool to read the ecu.

The abs is not connected to the ecu. The computer for the abs is on the abs unit.

Id suggest the problem was/is a sticking relay as mentioned. But there is the main relay in the relay box and there must be more closer or on the abs ecu. It sounds like one or the other.

If it does it again I would cbange out the fuse box relay and see what happens.

Maybe clean your wheel speed sensors?

Hunting around for replacement relays (need 2) and saw your comment, where did you get the replacement relay(s) from ?
I checked with Mitsubishi and the valve relay is available but it's ~ $190 !! Can't stretch to that. The motor relay is not available at all.

sorry for the late reply havent been on here since my car got defected and sold :(

anyways i had another whole gsr avaiable to me.

Sorry to hear that. If you want a another GSR there is one for sale at the moment and it looks pretty standard (better than mine and a good price) in Cars for sale (and therefore safe from the nice men in blue)

Thanks for the info, might have to start thinking along the same lines...
