Adj Cam Gears - What do you recommend and from where?

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

The pro series cam gears will be $25 more than the tuner series.

So $195 for the tuner series and $220 for the pro series.

I'll pm my bank details to you guys.

Last chance for anyone else interested!

Pro Series for me - you got PM.

Cheers mate

Has everybody put their $$$ into his account!? I want my cam gears!! Hopefully they'll turn up the same time as my rebuilt turbo

Excellent! OK - next question - who are you guys using to install your gears? I've had a look on vfaq and it looks like a prick of a job removing the timing belt and such, not to mention removing the cams themselves.... I WAS thinking of attempting it myself but it looks a little more involved than what I'd be willing to risk the internals of my engine for....

Really? I had been reading up a fair bit on it and decided that I should be able to do it, and I have very little mechanical ability. I am doing the valve springs too so that should be exciting enough.

How are you gonna do the valve springs? isnt that pretty much a head off job? or you are gonna do that and whak in some ARP headstuds at the same time as a nice new mls headgasket?

I'm going to attempt it myself too. I'm running the Coupe upto CVAP once I've bolted the rebuilt turbo on and we're going to do the cam gears, oil cooler and catch-can setup in the one day.

A mate's going to show me how to install the AVC-R so I'll have that ready and then it's back to CREATD for the tune!!

Yeah I am thinking of heading to CREATD for a tune too, just well over the other side of town for me.

It can't hurt to drop into either workshop and just chat with the guys there. Ask alot of questions from the guys on the forum and see if they will tell you about their experiences.

IMO distance from home should be a small factor in your choice of workshop - yes it's alot more convenient to be 20minutes from home as opposed to 1-2hrs, but at the end of the day it's the level of service and expertise that you will receive that should be the big decider and if that's at the place on the other side of town - then I drive to the other side of town.

I'm just lucky that CREATD is close to home and has also sofar delivered to my expectations.

Yes I certainly agree with you that!

Think I will start by getting my ECU socketed by meek as that seems to give pretty good results.

Can Springy Motors socket my ECU as well?

Socketing the ECU isn't hard if you know what your doing with a soldering iron. I did mine myself, no problems.

As for the AVCR, Its an easy install Shane, took me about 30 mins, and that was only because i had trouble getting into my loom to solder the wires. Was laying upside hanging half out of my vehicle with a flash light trying to see in there lol.

I hate hanging upside down under the dash with a passion - my back and neck kill me for about a day afterwards. But I hate paying workshops for doing things I could probably do myself even more so I'll give it a shot!

Hmmm, excellent Springy Motors is like 5 minutes from my work, I think I will give them a call and see what they can do.
