I'm going to be upgrading from 15" rims with 195/50 profile tyres to 17" with 205/45 tyres.

What will this do to how my car drives and feels on the road (ie change in rolling diameter etc)?

it wil definatley ride different, a bit firmer and less sloppy

and it may tramline a little but it should be too bad on 205s. you will probably need a wheel alignment to be sure too..the angles on the wheels will change with the larger rim

Whats 'tramlining' George?

I'm also wondering if the larger diameter will affect the gearing and speed I get on the track (ie slow it down or make it take longer to reach a certain speed).

it will probably make it a tin bit taller in the gears but i wouldnt think too much, it depends on how much the outside diameter has increased.

tramilining is where the car tends to follow the bumps in the road because of the tyres, as i said i dont think it will be a real issue with only 205s

205/45/17 might be a bit tall for the CC. might rub the guards a bit unless youve had them rolled. also speedo will be out by a tad.

Wheel size 15x6 ET 45/ 17x7 ET 40
BackSpace 133 mm (5.2'')/ 141 mm (5.6'')8 mm (0.3'') deeper.
Tire size 195/50-15/ 205/40-17
Section width 195 mm/ (7.7'') 205 mm (8.1'')
Sidewall 98 mm (3.9'')/ 82 mm (3.2'')
Tire diameter 577 mm (22.7'')/ 596 mm (23.5'')19 mm (3.3%) taller.
Rim sizes 15x5.5 to 15x7/ 17x6 to 17x7.5
Circumference 1812 mm (71.3'')/ 1871 mm (73.7'')
Revs per mile 888.3/ 859.9

When speedometer reads 60mph (96.6km/h) actual speed will be 62mph (99.8km/h): 3.3% faster.

205/35 makes it as close to the original size as you can in 17 inch

ummm 205 40's onli have a tyre load rating of 84 which an evo needs 85 or more but ud be unlucky to get done i find them all good 15' wheels give u better times qta the 1/4 mile i think but 17's are better for track 215's more contact with road surface better grip etc etc

Hehe, I am about to go from 16's to 15's once the rubber wares out.... dont think there are any real handeling differences to be had with such a change.

To be honest I think it is much more down the tyre choice than rim size. Some tyres have much stiffer sidewalls than others.

Well the condition of the rims wasn't to my level of satisfaction (I'm a fussy bastard) so I'm stuck with the trusty 15s for a while longer.

The search for 17s continues!
