ok, I know blue smoke is because of burnt oil, but there's more then one thing that can cause oil to be burned.

As far as I know it could be one of three things,
Turbo seal
Valve stem seals
Piston rings

My car is stil blowing blue smoke, so it's using oil in some way. I have to top up around 1 litre every 10 days. It has a new turbo (3000km), new valve stem seals (3000km) and the pistons were changed about 8 months ago (10000km).

The car blows blue smoke when it's first started in the morning. Once I take off and drive the smoke will disappear. When I'm stationary at a set of lights and take off, I can notice a small puff of blue smoke as I take off. Other then that, there is no sign of blue smoke.

The car has been tuned on 1 bar with 140kw at all fours.

I was wondering if anyone could help me diagnose which is causing me to use up oil. It is getting a compression test on Saturday to check the rings.

Car is getting annoying now, if it's anything costly I think I may just have to throw in a 63 or worst, sell it off.

You should be datalogging dude- ages ago.

What type of oil do you use?

If you're taking of from the lights and there's smoke, i'd say its the stem seals, but perhaps it could be something else??

Shoulda got a 4G63T ages ago!!!

x2 get chasers to question the guy who put the new stem seals in!

i took it to chaser's just before. i thought they handled the situation incorrectly. they went straight to assuming it was my piston rings because they just did my valve stem seals. i don't really mind if it is my valve stem seals as long as chaser's can rectify the problem without me having to fork out more money.

i feel like taking it to a new mechanic that has not worked on my car to find out the problem, therefore it won't be a biased opinion based on there workmanship.

if its only a puff on take off its top end

if its constant its rings and it smells different to

I know a guy who can check it for you, hes the only guy I let work on my cars ( I will pm the number for ya)

you do know that scott doesnt actually do any of the engine related work besides probably head gasket/timing belts inhouse? best to ask him for the guy who actually did the work so they can tell you what they think it is.

Just becuase the bloke did valve stem seals it doesnt mean its just that. Valve guides do wear out and if they are, they can cause oil burning too.

1. When you took you engine to this bloke was it for a engine rebuild or was it a head gasket job??

2. If the head was removed, did the bloke test each and every valve guide for clearances.

When you say it smokes upon start up in the morning, just picture what each and every componant is doing and what can be the cause of oil entering the combustion chamber.

Valve guides
stem seals
Worn valve shafts <<<<<<
oil control rings
Turbo seals rooted.

Yes, the turbo can get faulty overnight.

My cousin had his turbo rebuilt and highflowed from GCG turbocharges, we bolted it on, turbo was pissing oil still, droplets and droplets of oil in the exhuast outlet to the dump pipe.

We took it back to gcg, they admited later that they installed the wrong size oil seal. So you see, no matter what name the company is, even GCG turbos stuff up workmanship.

Valve guides, yeah, thats 1 to take into consideration.

Cos the apparent oil burning occurs during cold start up too, so it shouldnt be the turbo, cos the turbo exhuast is too cold to burn oil particles into smoke, so yes, its ur engine.

Stem seals
Valve guides.

But not to forget about bore quality, or oil quality, because what if in the past big particles got caught in the oil, thus damaging the bores and letting ouil through.

i've been away with family so haven't had the chance to get the car sorted, let alone drive it. most shops are still closed for holidays so maybe in the next week or two when i'm free will take it down to CREATD to get it comp tested.
