Another Shifter Bush thread

So my shifter has insane amount of side to side play and after searching the forums i only found old threads but no links to any sites and was hoping by now people have found places to find brass bushes.

Im after the top 2 bushes that sit on the left and right side, i spend ages last night trying to find some brass bushes online but only found this plastic replacement.

I possibility need lower mounts aswell cause they look kinda dodgy with like 10 washers on it lol see what u think from my pic anyway and if u see anything else let me know.

Ring Meek in NSW they could help you out.. Most shops in the US stock the lower base spacers/mounts...

Mine are buggered to and I just picked up a sweet short shifter from trademe.co.nz. Lee is know what ya find !

I have never seen brass bushes for the actual shifter?, only the cable at the gearbox end.

And a short shifter wont fix the sloppyness if the bushes are stuffed

Seems to be a common problem. Ive seen what it looks like steal bushes a guy got over in the US from Mitsubishi he posted a pic on their forums but i cant find it again..

I was not sure if you we're after cable bushes or shifter bushes sorry...

Here is a link that may help.. He used bushes from a hardware store, I guess you could go around and try and hunt something down.
I will be tuning some up in the lathe when I move back to Brisbane next year...

Ok so since i can only find crappy plastic bushes im going to buy one from here http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/170585766110?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649.

Then ill test fit it to make sure its nice and snug and ive got a guy that might be able to make them out of brass, not sure on prices ill find out next week but ill let u all know how it goes im pretty sure this will solve our problem.

They are only plastic from Mitsubishi arent they? well so far ive seen they are..

I just put some copper washers on either side and greased it up... worked

I found the slop was not from the plastic bushes on the side of the shifter arm, but the plastic sleeve between the shifter arm and the mount.

First i tried cutting up a plastic coke bottle, greasing it up and using that as a bush. it worked for about 3 weeks then wore out.

Then i read on here someone cut up a can, then rolled it around the shaft a number of times and greased it up. has worked fine for the last 5 years.

god thats sounds wrong now i've re-read it.

Haha yeh ive seen that done on USA forums but yeh whatever works. Ill see how it goes the other few guys that have made them from brass say that they are alot better than plastic bushes.

Ill get like 20 made if noone wants them here ill sell them on ebay

Hi,

I just did all of mine in the shifter box inside the car, 6 bushes in total. Took about 20 minutes (would have been quicker but I was lazy and left centre console in place still).

After alot of searching the net I got onto JNZTuning.com and they have all you need. There are 2 x bushes i found on there for the 1G DSM/GVR4:
OEM Shifter Bushing-90 DSM (MB580253) = $7.99 each
OEM Shifter Bushing-91-94 DSM (MB367320) = $1.19 each
$40 freight to Perth though...


I didnt know which ones were for what part of the shifter so I bought more than I needed and so it turns out they are the same OD & ID of the bush part but it is the shoulder area that is a little different sized and one is a softer rubber while the other is more of a plastic material (either way they all fit in each position in the shifter).

If I need to do them again then I would just be buying 6 of the cheap ones...

Oh yeah and for $1.00 more get a new little plastic shifter cup too... I did for the hell of it and turns out mine was shagged too. It's basically the wear part for the bottom of the shifter bar itself where it actuates the shifter assy

Was the best mod I did on my old EVO. I used Beatrush ones from Japan. They were pricey, but worth it!

I made up Brass bushes for mine. Tricky to do since the inside to outside measurement was only about 2mm difference and i had to machine in a stepped shoulder as well. Good now with minimal freeplay and also no vibrations or noise.
