This car has been around for a while in qld and is registered on tasmanian plates. I believe the loophole was available for when a car was to run in Targa Tasmania you could get the car registered. Possibly it is on race/rally in TAS which doesn't show up in QLD.

Not sure how you would go getting the car registered in other states. It has never had its registration converted in qld which you would imagine it would have if it could have.

If it is only race/rally Tas rego it should be wearing black and white "special interest " number plates, which begin with the letters SI.
Pity the pics are not clear enough to see the plates as I could do a plate search and check the rego status.

When did that start?

For as long as I can remember! This is the rego class that all cars running in Targa Tas must fall under (if they are not general road registered or have race/rally rego issued by another state).
My E6 for example is currently running NSW race rego, I am in the process of transferring it to Tas SI rego which requires me to have the cams logbook transferred by the Tas cams office, obtain my aasa or cams national rally licence and have relevant paperwork for transfer in order for Transport Tas.
These are the classes that vehicles are eligible for SI rego in Tas........

Special Interest Vehicle (SIV) registration is a registration scheme which allows certain categories of vehicles to be used on a limited basis and pay a lower rate of motor tax and third party insurance than fully registered vehicles.
To be considered for SIV registration the vehicle must fall into one of the following categories:
  • a vehicle manufactured 30 years or more prior to the date of application for registration.
  • A rally vehicle used exclusively in conjunction with Confederation of Australian Motor Sports (CAMS) events
  • A vehicle adapted and modified exclusively for charitable events (eg TasBash, Make a Wish Foundation, etc.)
Once registered certain conditions apply to the vehicles use:
  • Only to be used 52 days per annum
  • A logbook to be carried at all times
  • The operator must have another fully registered motor vehicle under their name
Other conditions may be applied at the time of registration.

Don't think so Dan
On the subject of the E1 I have a sneaking suspicion that it may have been used for Targa class b circuit racing down here.
If it is the car that I am thinking of, vsthis now has the original 4g63 out of it!
