Hey guys,

Anyone into go karts on here? How is it as a spare time hobby.

Any good forums with info on how to chose a kart thats right for u etc?

Also if you own one plz post it up and whats in it.

Why am i asking this ? Got mates who just got into it and rave about it non stop. Wouldnt mind getting one also but need to finish my car first so every dollar counts.
Untill then its a matter of research ;)

I was in to them a couple of years ago, had a Arrow AX9 with a 125 Rotax engine, great fun but can be expensive cos tyres don't last long and at $250 a set depending on what tyres you use if you want grip or something not so grippy but last a bit longer. There's also parts you will have to buy along the way like chains and other little things.

Or you could build your own, like me and my mate, and have a load of fun if you have tracks which will let you use it....

It's good fun but can be expensive when you break things.

This is the kart we use: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZObsEZDw48&feature=share&list=UUmwPr7CbY3TbocXBYMkaMlQ

It's a 2-stroke Honda CR250 dirt bike engine and gearbox bolted onto an elongated frame with front and rear brakes.

Yeah definitely a bit of a handful, but loads of fun to either go fast and set a few really good lap times or just drift.

I think that's the problem with an R1 kart: they're too big, heavy and powerful to go fast around corners properly and challenge other karts on the track...you just can't seem to get grippy enough tires.
