anyone tuned or used this type of fuel? theres only one place ATM to get this stuff.. and its rated at about 105ron.

Taken from LS1/2 forums

E85 BENEFITS
- 105 Octane Pump Rating (testing shows more like 110 RON behaviour)
- Reduces tailpipe emissions significantly
- Significantly cheaper than conventional unleaded fuels

CONSIDERATIONS
- Specific tuning needs to be carried out to use E85, its not plug and play
- You will use more of the fuel, as its 'lighter'
- Thats about it

Where the massive importance for the performance industry comes into play is in the incredible detonation resistance that this fuel displays. Running a turbocharged/cam equipped VY R8 on full 100% E85 blend shows tuning behaviour and power building characteristics very similar to commercially available VP109 which is some $10 a litre and only available from Speed Shops rather than out of the pump. Easy supporting significant timing increases over conventional 98 octane unleaded fuels, the promise of even higher compression turbocharged V8 engines is an eye watering power making proposition

Sorry haven't yet. Can't wait til its out on the pump first place i'll be going is to get a full tank then to the dyno

Contact Matt Lowth on EvoOz...

"Perhaps the most impressive EVO of the day may have been Matt’s blue EVO IX. Still utilising a stock engine and clutch, the car puts out 307kW to all 4-wheels thanks to an ATP Gold spec turbo on E85 pump fuel. Matt’s best time for the day was an 11.81/125."

sent him a pm on evo oz. reading thru the posts sounds like he tunes his own cars and works at a workshop? Im suspecting RE Customs?

Jon

pretty sure josh's (fq400) is.. or was going to be..
but my mate on evo oz is aswell running 1000cc injectors.. username dandin.

Matt Lowth is a Nerd.. If you have issue contacting him let me know. he is a friend of mine.. Also he tunes the newer evo's at the moment. But, he made some 260kw @ wheels without major modifications in his evo. There is also a abundance of tuning tips for E85 on the interwebs..

I think Baz was trying to say that you would still tune your ecu as you would using PULP or C16 etc.. You tune your car/ecu to suit the new fuel. There is not special way of tuning your car if that makes sense??

Would i go E85 right now though, no, not enough places supply it..

Yep, you just tune it to slightly leaner afrs than what you can get with pump fuel.I'm running just over 12:1 in mine and I've only just started playing with it. You can also dial in a lot more timing with it. You do need to be careful with the timing though as it is very hard to get E85 to knock, this means it is very easy to go overboard with the timing.
I can't wait to start playing with it again once my 4bolt gets here :)

yerp i heard you have to give it about 30% more fuel. Obviously has to run bigger injectors and it uses more fuel then normal pulp.

only place in melbourne that supplies it ATM is in Hoppers Crossing, but whats to say that you cant have 2 maps on ur car? one for pulp and one for e85?

Jon

oh yer, so if you use 30% more fuel you need 30% more injectors... so im gathering a 300-350kw application requires about 1000cc + ? maybe some indy blues. ? sound about right?...

wonder how those would work when you switch to the pulp map.

Jon

I'm running Bluemax 1450's in mine right now Jon. They run fine with both pump and E85.
I'm going to be stepping up a 'little' in turbo size soon so I went big so I wouldn't have to change again.
Atm i'm getting about 65% idc @ approx 26psi on a 50trim.

I guess there has to be a compromise, with such large injectors on pulp, will end up having a harder time getting AFR right on light load/idle.

Thats the turbo i have...

Do you think that 1000cc injectors are big enuff? on PULP 1000cc is sufficent enuff for almost 450kw!!

So it makes me think is it worth my time going to e85 or just stay on pulp for now...... i dont drive this car much so thats why i have been contemplating e85.

Jon

I dont think anything around 300-330kw atw on E85 is really worth it. The engine should be built to be running those sorts of numbers on 98 octane pump fuel first with all the supporting mods, then you should step up to E85 fuel, big injectors and a tune to exceed 350kw+ and the potential to go 400kw+ . Thats just my opinion anyway as you'd like to reach the limits of 98 pump first before progressing onto the next level (as you would have done with C16 etc)

Im keeping a close eye on Steve's car http://4gtuner.com/site/showthread.php?p=163499#post163499 as he's at the stage of doing this soon in Sydney, where there's a lot more readily accessible E85 on pump.

Where are you getting the 1000's from Jon?
Fic Bluemax are good value atm with the Aussie dollar.

Here are the rough specs on my next toy :)

thats a big turbo :D!!

$465USD i think the FIC blues are?

Jon

Hell yes Jon! I don't like doing things the conventional way mate :p
The S366 spools surprisingly well too! And I'll only have to run it at about 25psi to see decent numbers :)
Here are a couple of vids with it mate...

The 1450 bluemax are $409USD at Extremepsi atm mate. Good value injector too.

I'm going with E85 because I was starting to see knock on mine even with meth injection as the 50trim starts blowing hot air at around 29psi. the E85 cools the charge and helps me get around this.
