hey guys i have got a point in my life where i need to look to the future a bit more...

i wanna do an apprenticeship in Auto Mechanic or Diesel Mechanic...

if i do Auto mechanic id wanna do it in a Performance shop as i dont think i could stand working on VC commonwhores all day everyday if you know what i mean, Diesel mechanic wouldnt matter aslong as it was good machinery that is being fixed.

basically if any1 knows a good apprenticeship job available in what im after and help to get it would be appreciated.

Cheers Guys

Good luck trying to get into a performance shop, I think that is a place you need to kno someone working there already etc. If you wanna work on Kia come work with me! We need someone badly that has some talent. There is only me and another Mechanic and another Apprentice who is only in 1/2 of the week after one mechanic moved on. There is plenty of oportunities to learn as these cars have there fair share of problems, and all the latest esp etc are all getting incorpoated as well.
Give my boss a call if your interested: Chris Lovelock - 9555 2622

How old are you?

I'm about to finish my light vehicle apprenticeship....If I had to do over, I wouldn't do it again.
At the end of the 4 years of shit pay and shit jobs....you get more shit pay. A common dealership mechanic (ie. Mitsu/Toyota/Nissan) is lucky to get $17-20 an hour.

Yes I've learnt a lot and can do a lot more than an ordinary Joe Blow can do when it comes to cars. BUT unless your at a reputable performance house or an exotic shop (Merc/BMW etc) there is no money in it compared to other trades.
How am I supposed to afford my first house on $18 an hour? People always say "Atleast you have a trade behind you." When Mr. Bank Manager forcloses on your house because you can't afford it....you reckon he'll care that you have a trade?

thats why you do your own work at home =)
and charge 50 an hour.

mechanics only make money if they own the business imo...
just like hospitality, other trades.

im 21 but i more or less am doing it to get the trade as i intend on living overseas in 5-10 years... and atm if i moved i wouldnt have anything to take me there....

That's true, but its very stressful and time consuming if you want to make good money.
And home jobs are great, but you can only do so much till Mr. Tax man notices. I've been audited already...

i know alot of people at car dealerships getting paid 20+ at both honda toyota ford and many other dealerships

but that was after the four years is up

i worked at a car dealerships for a while that got my foot in the door to where i m now and alot of the guys i work with now in IT

but people in car dealerships can go from mechanics to service advisers and so on to

Service advisors = Not much better pay and having to deal with dick head cheap skate customers. And service manager = You doing all the hard work running the show while making money for the Dealer principal.

How long have those guys been in the same workshop to get $20+ an hour?

I know 2 guys that did diesel fitting, worked in the mines, saved up a heap of money, opened their own performance shop, got sick of putting up with time wasters so went back to the mines.

diesel = some fkn hard work but better $$$, epsecially if working 'away'
light veh = potential for more enjoyment but less $$$

i use to work for a honda dealership

most 4th year app once finished there app went on to earn minimum 19 a hour and the rest are all plus on that i think the avarage wage of the guys was somthing like 25 to 26 a hour

and service advisors where getting more

i think it all depends on where you work some dealerships are good to there workers others are barsteds

my friend who is a 4th year app his on 19.20 a hour as a des mechanic at a dealership

i work in IT my old job was working for a it company who made a DMS for car dealerships it was my foot in the door to IT i started as a parts interp then went into IT i have hired people with no IT background other then the basics to work for me at my old work as we where always looking for people with on site experince but never had anyone so just hired uni grads 90% of the time

i have now left there and the place im working for now is full of ex parts and service guys all from dealerships not one it grad

That sounds like what I would do!

Yes there is money in the mining places but you must have a Diesel trade. I'm in a long term relationship, so I have to take both of our lives/careers into account. So mining is out for me.

In th 80's my Step dad worked in the mines for 4 years. When he came back he brought a house, XU1 Torana and went on a world wide holiday for a year....So yeah there is good money in Diesel Mechanics.

same ere, as much as I would like to make some money in WA I dont think it will happen....

the money is good but it does cost alot to live there also,

still works out alright, but if you dont go about it the right way you
can easily come back without saving any money.(like a mate of mine did,too much beer)

Go to uni.

My graduate salary next year is 96k p/a, goes up to 135k p/a the year after that.

I'll be a qualified Mining Engineer in 12 months. Fuck working for 25 bucks an hour.
