I am after 2-3 litres of automotive paint. Has anybody got any recommendations on where I should look to buy?

if its for inside look for something very hard wearing shayne

also what colour are you going to paint the inside?

I was going to use a few cans of chassis/rollbar black, but I thought it would look a bit cheap so have decided to lash out and get a spray gun and proper paint. Given the level of detail and workmanship going into the cage, I need to do the right thing and do a proper paint job.

I'm looking at the Mazda6 grey.

When you say "hard wearing" George - what should I be looking for? I am totally naive of paint (I know two-pack and acrylic) but there's expoy, enamel, etc and that level of detail is just over my head.

yep, use a lightish grey so you can see stuff inside. im regretting the black. There is a type of paint the rally guys but i cant recall the name of it.

use a 2pak brand......ppg is good but its expensive bro, even for a rollcage.....i use debeers which u can find at the body shop and is a decent product for a decent hard wearing finished product.....what ever u need let me know and i can get it for you....i get it trade price for debeers, ppg and autothane and travis at ralliart can get spies hecker (trade price) also...take ur pick matey:thumbsup:

What would you recommend? I don't have alot of $$$ to spend.

I want a darker metallic grey, can any of those guys mix it to the colour I want or is just a standard choice of colours?

dont go too dark you will regret it in the long run, its too hard to see any cracks or even working inside the car its too hard too see.its your call though but im shareing my experience. everyone was telling me to go white or light grey but i wanted black. i now want grey:(. im sure it will look sweet mate:thumbsup:

all paint codes are universal with all paint systems bud......ull need 3ltrs(mixed) of basecoat and id say 1500ml of clear(mixed)

i would reccomend using something in this product range

its amazingly durable stuff, i couldnt scratch it even when i tried
i was told about it and didnt believe it...but when i saw how tough this paint is I freaked out.

alot of rally cars use it on interiors...kinda costly but worth it imo

and you can get this stuff through bodyshop too

na man spray it.....it actually is good stuff, good thinkin jorel:thumbsup: ive used it a couple of times and it would actually be good for roll cages

I've never used a spray gun before so I'm sticking to pressure packs. I've gone to the Bodyshop in Thomastown and picked out a flat charcoal two pack that they'll add a combiner to (or something to make it a single pack) which they'll put a satin gloss into for me. I'll use a HiChem grey etch primer pressure pack to start with and spray the charcoal over the top.

I'm going one can atm so I can trial it on the car first, then if I like it I'll get more to finish it off.

next time u go there tell them to give u my prices bro! i know don and dave well there....tell them harry at F1 will break their balls if they dont

Awesome Harry!! I'll do that. I was dealing with Dave on Saturday (he's doing up a VL turbo drag car he was telling me). He seems like a good bloke.

I haven't got or paid for the can of paint yet - they're going to have it ready for me in the next couple of days - perhaps you could ring and 'word them up' for me...
