i dont know if anybody out there feels the same way, but autosalon went to shit about 2 years ago .........

too many lost c**ts, too much chrome, too much airbrushing, and way too much emphasis on over-the-top simply stupid modifications that I cannot believe anybody would find aesthetically pleasing........ :? :? :?

dont get me wrong, around a few corners you do find a beautifully modded example, clean down to every minor detail, and the occasional HP beast, but the majority of cars there are simply horrendous (and usually accompanied by an wrongly attitude-infused owner and mates)........

I know im generalising....., and there are exceptions.
i dont know...... i mean, i see photos from NZ autosalons and the vast majority of the cars there are AWESOME.
anyone feel the same?

I sure as hell aint going anymore. :|

i can't say that i have ever been to autosalon, always working or something when it is on, but if i could comment on what you said about NZ, u gotta remember how much cheaper cars and parts are over there, i.e a vr4 will set u back about 4k if that, where as we pay 10k on average

Yep I agree Dan. Autosalon was a big wank this year. Team Concept got disqualified so everyone on the team was pretty pissed off. Doesn't look many of them will enter again next year. I won't enter next year unless some serious sponsors come my way.........

Spent most of the weekend telling tossers to keep their fingers off the car :p

I know how you feel GSRSOL, being lucky enough to see what both countries have to offer, I certainly know what your on about.

Gunna have to disagree about the "cars are cheaper in NZ" thing, because clearly people have ALOT more money to spend on their cars here in Aus, than what they do in NZ. Sure, there are heaps more readily availible cars and larger selection, but where's the money at? Not in NZ.

What it comes down to is the influence of automotive style. When I went to my first M.A.S 2 years ago, I laughed my head off so hard. It seems like everyone over here has been watching too much Fast and the Furious, and they're automotive style has been influenced by the American market. I'll be the first to agree with you Dan, that chrome and airbrushing is ghey.

NZ on the other hand, is totally influenced by JDM, and their style reflects this. Sure, you get one or 2 guys with chrome and airbrushing, but people would be quietly laughing on the inside when they'd see it.

NZ 1, AUS 0.

i havent gone for the last two years. Seems to be the same crap, year after year.. without concession prices... fs $22.50 :| WTF. Seriously. I'd go if it was all mitsubishi and i saw a mitsubishi eclipse or something. Maybe a ford mustang saleen S351 :D:D!!

Well least freakin' Chasers did somthing with that Evo Makkinen of theirs and walked off with the JDM runner-up prize. At least one garage has their heads screwed on straight and kept it simple and effective. Was a waste though, was expecting to see that thing run on the dyno, wonder what it makes. :?:

Yep, our boys at Fangartists decided not to enter at all this year, as did our brother club SAU due to placing issues with Cabin.
There's 30 odd decent cars gone right there!

I dropped in on Sunday to pick something up from one of the lads, and got free trade entry and parking, so decided it would be no harm to go for a short perve, but the cars? Might as well make it Skank Salon! The lack of QUALITY talent was amazing!

1999, 2000 and 2001 were good Auto salon
real cars good mods, quick and STREET DRIVEN and if they werent they were off there tits.
I took my car to the 2001 AS it was great

Brother, I was there in '01 snapping away with my trusty first digi cam. When I read what you just wrote, I delved into my vault, and look what I found ;)

Thats my baby

Man it feels like yesterday. Thats a fantastic pic of it cheif
Havent seen it in 1 peice for 3 years

Ahhhhh memories

i havent been to one since about 2001 and even back then it had gone to shit, 97/98/99 were the best years in my opinion. Sometimes i hate saying i have a lancer because of the crap people do to them and the stereotype people hold towards them, but then when they see mine its ok ;)

yeah i would tend to agree with most of the comments...

i enter coz i enjoy the atmosphere and we enter as a group of cars through our mechanic so we have a good time as a group, especially saturday night...

but the cars are getting more and more over the top... for a lot of the show its either, some over the top show pony chromed up airbrushed monstrosity... or a euro/jap car owned by an asian guy (not being racist at all) that puts a big custom kit and 20s...

most of these Elite - Garasi etc cars all begin looking the same... its not that i dont like em, but if u take them away, and all those ugly chrome/airbrushed show ponys then there is nothing really left...

the 8 cars we entered (Pro-tek) are all street driven, privately owned cars that can all be driven regularly without too much hassle and look pretty nice... without being outrageous!

there were a couple of highlights but very few and far between...

Yellow evo 8, white evo 8 with evo 9 kit (FQ-400 plates), few evo 6s... couple of nice S15s, few nice cars in motorware stand, grey S2000 & Green civic next to each other, and a few euros...
