I'm thinking about getting some BC 272/272 Cams from the states.

Do i need to get valve springs and retainers aswell or will the stock items do the job?

And are adjustable cam gears worth adding?

Hope your order works out better than mine did, it took nearly 3 months for my cams to arrive after I paid for them :?
Be sure that whoever you order from can guarantee they are in stock.

Apparently stock springs and retainers will do the job just fine,
and adjustable gears are worth the purchase.

Yes, got them from speedclinic it's a pity you were not thinking about getting some earlier as I think they have gone up a fair bit in price over the last couple of months :(

I would try somewhere other than speedclinic as they stuffed me around bigtime with my order...apparently bc cams are only made in small production lots so stock is not always readily available.

Still have them sitting in a box in the shed Damo..so can't give you a verdict  I think BMGTZ is running them in his gsr?

Cheers mate. I'll have a good read and probably order some in the next few days.

I've got a few questions about your brake setup too but i'll pm you in the next week or so.

No worries mate, my old buddy, old pal Dan  has not got back to me about taking the lips back with him yet, but if he can't fit them in the car I will post them off to you at the end of next week.

importblowout is a vgoood seller, i got my bc 272's of there and he is very quick to reply and send etc.
i used them with stock ggsr srpings n retainers for 4000 km's and was fine, revving to 7.5 every day..
but now i have the hd springs n retainers and they are good aswell.

Cheers mate. I'm in no rush as the i'm going to be waiting for the front bar for about another 8 weeks or so.

Cheers Matt. Did you run adjustable cam gears? How's your idle?

I have been looking at these babies too, such a good price even though they have gone up in price since the start of a year.

Not sure on the idle quality and driveabilty, as my car is a daily driver. Will be interesting to see your guys results.

Beats me why so many people still dont upgrade their valve springs when they've just increased camshaft lift, rpm range and ultimately valvetrain temperatures :?: Stock springs will handle it to a point yes... but how old and how many kms have your stock springs done? do you trust the engine to your stock springs should your valvetrain fail? Its always good practice when upgrading to higher lift and longer duration cams to do the springs at the same time (and retainers too for added security) :) You'll get away with the stockies, but thats the risks you take I guess.

Mate, I picked up a set from ImportEvolution in the US early this year at a really good price...

I would suggest that you upgrade valve springs and retainers in the same throw; they're not that dear, however, on their website they stipulate that the stock valve springs are adequate enough...

I picked up a couple of Fidanza adjustable cam gears in the same order but good gains have been made without even having to dial them in, so stock cam gears can still be used.

Matress was using BC272 with standard valvesprings and cam gears but from memory, his engine suffered a few problems a month or so ago. Whether that is related, I am unsure...

yeh well my ggsr engine just clocked onto 200.000 k and i put the cams in, springs etc pulled out looked absolutly fine when i rebuilded the head for vr4 conv..
my idle sits on 800 no problem, and no adjustable cam gears were used :)

if you want some decent cams and quickly have a look at Kelfords
I have No complaints but you will need to change the springs as the lift will bind

got them in 3 days!

I got three sets of BC cams sent over a month or so ago, 2 sets of 272/272 and 1 set of 280/280 havent used them yet as the stroker kit I purchased on ebay four weeks ago still hasnt got here. :x

I got three sets because I am building two engines and one is a bit "hotter" than the other. I was going to put the 280s in this but grabed an extra set of 272 in case I didnt like it lumpy

the mob selling the stroker, CNC MOTORSPORTS sold something they didnt have in stock  then took their sweet time to buy it after I had paid them  then the rings where out of stock at the supplier....blah blah blah.

nothing like a few spares.....and only two of the three GSRs in the familiy are mine. the one I bought yesterday is for the daughter.

but the engines are costing more than the cook would like so one of mine will have to go when its finished....told her cant sell it in pieces

Sorry for a stupid question guys!! I bought a set of 272 bc cams for evo 1-3, will they fit in my 6 bolt vr4 engine or are they different in some way?

I am sick of looking at my car in pieces and am struggling to afford to build my new engine at the moment, so have decided to repair my vr4 engine.
Am sending the head off on saturday to be checked but thought I might put the bc cams in if they will fit?

cheers in advance
Scott :D
