Cut this short but recently there's lot of EVO got stolen....
Those who advertise on carsales especially be extra careful.
Those who don't have insurance better think twice....
When parking the car... think of a location... where it's hard for tow truck to get access....

Not gonna mention who's car but today saw more than one evo at Tech///sport, who's car got broken into, but the stealer fail due to the immobiliser.

Also another good idea is start removing post pictures of your cars from website.... !!!!

Now's a good time to invest in a lockable/removable steel bollard for the garage boys (concreted into the ground 900mm :) )

Hmm, take your ecu with you .... :p

Alarm with SMS!

Out of interest, is there any way of locking the brakes on while car is locked? --- that would make it a bitch to tow/steal

My Mrs recently got an alarm through ebay. Its a 2-way paging system up to 5km radius. If the alarm is set off the pager tells you what triggered it.. ie. doors, bonnet, engine start-up (if they got past the immobiliser). BUT, there is another immobiliser in the system which enables you to shut off the car via the pager unit within a 5km radius. So if your pager goes off and it shows that the car engine has started, you can press a button to shut the car down while they are driving it :D There's other units that SMS you and globally track your car too but then you're talking big bucks. This little nifty alarm she got cost under $200!! It's made somewhere in Asia and the instructions are a bit dodgey but its got 2 digital screen pagers, immobilisers, shock sensor, ultrasonic sensor, auto window wind-up, remote engine shut off, bonnet and bootlid switches, and a few other nifty's (except SMS facility).

That sounds like a bargain. There was a product called the 'boomerang' a few years ago that had similar features plus a turbo timer....

^^^^^ +1 Post a link mate.

Wonder what the authorities think of that?
Would be sweet if when it immobilised the car it also
locked the doors...so you can exact some [cough]...
justice

if the pager alarm gets d/c'ed then SMSing would do nothing!

I think I need to invent a device myself (I should since I did electronics :S)

Hrmms.

I know you can also get clutch pedal locks also, along with a steering wheel lock and imoblizer/alarm, im sure a theft would be like 'oh ffs' :)

the best way is a kill switch

I have one and I also have a 3 point immobilised mongoose alarm with 3 sperate sirens

you can also get a alarm with video cam so you can take a pic of the person in the drivers seat and it will get sent to your phone, so you can show the police

Here's a link to a current one he's selling:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-2-Way-Re...5751883QQihZ008QQcategoryZ31250QQcmdZViewItem

Actually I noticed now that he has them listed at $299 Buy Now but we got ours from him for only $122.51 back in July!! Check it out: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=180140743081&ssPageName=STRK:MERFB:IID

We got it for the Mrs car from EBAY Seller OZ CAR Security. It passes ISO certification so thats good at least. It doesnt have black wiring like others but I'm sure if the alarm is triggered and your pager goes off you're gonna run to your car anyway, plus you can use the anti-hijack remote engine shutoff if they've managed to start it up. For what you get for the money, you cant complain at all. It also comes with a large bi directional aerial that you can stick to the back of your rear vision mirror and the Pagers can also recharge the Li-on batteries themselves via the cigarette lighter- how good it that!! :D I now see that he is also selling things like power window modules and boot release solenoids etc for the alarm for those people who want the added extras like that.

coloured wiring

haha

so, you're making it even easier for the robbers to trace the wires and cut the right ones

AND you're voiding your insurance.

Only if you rely 100% on the alarm system as a deterrent but everyone knows you should also include a hidden kill switch :p . For the money it aint bad at all and I wouldnt have got it for her car if it didnt have a pager to tell you the car is being broken into in the first instance. We never go anywhere where we are that far away from it anyhow and we can usually be there in under a minute. The alarm, kill switch, and remote shut off all would come together to make it harder for any would-be thieves. I suppose you could always paint, conduit, or tape up the wires as well which would slow them down too.

IMO full comprehensive insurance on a car worth under $10,000 aint really worth it. We only have 3rd party property damage insurance on her car. I suppose car theft out my way isnt as bad like in Sydney or Melbourne, but that hasnt stopped us in investing in security in some form or another :)

No alarm with coloured wiring can pass ISO standards. It's impossible. Black wiring is one of the requirements.... read the standards.

Insurance companies don't count alarms that have coloured wiring as even being on the car.

isn't newcastle a prime area for car theft?

my friend was living in newcastle with her grandparents, and she had her VN commodore stolen from the front yard and set on fire at a local footy oval

I feel like a worm on a hook here  Like I said, our car isnt comprehensive insured so the insurance doesnt count - get it? The main aim is to stop the bastards from stealing your car and a paging alarm is a good way to know that your car alarm is going off - geez, bloody pitbull dogs the lot of ya  The extra kill switch helps keep it safer with enough time for you to arrive on scene. For the money its a good alarm whether it has black wires or not. :p

i was told once that the best alarms have coloured wiring but the different colours are mixed up so that the thief think s a wire does something but it does the opposite.

Is this bullshit?
