Hi all I've just bought a 2000 model mirage. I assume its the 4g15 motor because its a 1.5ltr. I want to do a few mods to squeeze some better performance, its got hurricane extractors with a 100 cell high flow cat and 2.5 inch exhaust with straight through muffler, just added a k&n panel filter. I'm looking at getting bigger injectors and a bigger throttle body possibly off a lancer from that year,I hope they would bolt straight on? If so which model lancer should i be looking for? I would probably get a flash tune too and want to know if anyone has any recommendations on a flash box. Also any cheap mods or parts that are recommended to increase performance as I'm new to Mitsubishis

Spending money like that to get more power out of a 4g15 is a waste of money mate no offence. You'd be better of finding a 4g93 out of a gli lancer coupe or sedan and upgrade that.Pretty cheap motors to buy and even stock would be better than your modified 4g15. The 4g15 dohc motors are not to bad either. I bought one a few years back now for a 99 mirage and it cost me $700 from a jap wreckers. Was an easy conversion too. I then went to an evo motor. If your budget stretches further then turbo the 93 or 15 dohc as well. You should be able to find some info on here about doing that. 4g63t out of Evo 4-6 will pretty much drop straight in but you would need to use the Evo box and have it modified to run fwd. or the later model 96 on gsr lancer 4g93t will fit easily too. Mitsi turned the engines around from 96 so older Evo or gsr would be a very tricky job to put in but it has been done before

Good to see another Wollongong member!
I agree with Adrian...dont bother trying to enhance that motor...if anything save your coin and buy a GSR? They are going pretty cheap these days if you know where to look.

or just make it handle and have some fun. I have a 1.3 starlet that has 44kw but good suspension and brakes and its a blast. I can beat much faster cars on the track and its scares the shit out of people on twisty roads lol

Go to 2.0 or 2.4 dohc na g4js from sonata and ecu. Check that it will bolt to your gearbox. Compare distance at top bolt holes on gearbox to confirm. Also starter maybe on different side.

Later you can add a turbo and pistons and go from there.
Recently read about a guy running 9.9 @ 144mph 1/4 time on the same oe bottom end. So there is plenty of strength there.

George has a good suggestion here. Try and find proton satria gti rear disc brake assembly and even the fronts if you can find the standard brakes are rubbish when leaned on. Rpw in Perth have off the shelf upgrades for the brakes on these from memory. A good set of shocks and springs as well and you will be loving throwing your 900kg hatch around on a windy road. If I were you I'd try and import a mirage cyborg zr from Japan or even nz as a parts car and start swapping everything over. The 4g92 mivec 1600 makes 175hp standard Just an idea 4 u

Hmm fair call on swapping engines but the time it would take to swap that out myself and the cash would leave me without a car for too long, I also don't have enough knowledge for that which is why I wanted to bolt some parts. I have a mate who has a turbo manifold and excess parts from his lancer,so I could potentially turbo this motor. But in the mean time I just want more fun without spending too much coin or time which is why I thought of the injectors and a flash and dyno tune...its either that stuff or body mods, which I might add is insanely hard to find custom tail lights to fit in Wollongong. Think I might pull a spare set apart and do those myself and add a halo kit to my headlights

Also if I put in 390cc injectors from the originals which I believe are 180,would I need to modify or change the rail or should it be just a straight swap out?

Buy a cheap 4g93 single cam from a wreckers put it on a stand at home and turbo that if you want a turbo. To turbo what you have is going to cost more than a motor replacement. Work on the handling like George said lower it and put some nice 17's on it. I recon they look pretty sweet like that. You can't get tail lights for them but you can get fiberglass covers that look super ugly! I'm pretty sure the standard ecu in those is not flashable. Very basic cars remember. Designed for nanas and designed to run on the smell of an oily rag. I could rant on for ages telling you parts youd need to modify its simply not worth it. Teust me i pulled one down to see for myself.
Simple equation mate. Power= torque x rpm. Since its 1.5 it has bugger all torque therefore you need to raise the rpm to mental levels if you were to get power. That means a very very expensive build. Save your coin for a better engine there are lots of cheap options or just buy a performance car if you want performance

unfortunatly its true bud, by the time ya upgrade everything brakes, suspension, ecu and wiring, fuel supply, driveline, and anything else, it gets expensive, and then ya probably only go as quick as a standardish gsr but have more reliability issues,

dont let it stop ya building a superior handling car and honing ya skills though! my mrs 1st car was a 1.8ce fwd lancer and once we done suspension and handling up abit, we would beat up on v6 commos through the streets, quite funny when they realise they've gone into a corner way to hot and the front wheels dont turn anymore....

Haha suspension would be cool. If I could get parts cheap or free I will bolt them on for the performance but I don't think I'll actually try to find stuff. Any cheap or free mods that anyone can suggest. I have considered updating the intake as it goes to a box then the pipe after goes into the fender and back up into the engine bay. Would it be a good idea to cut it down to only sit in the fender? Or is there a better place to get cold air?
