Yeah so it's begun.
Going to church this arvo and pulling hard in 4th and the engine starts revving higher as if the clutch is in...
Thought maybe I had my foot resting on the clunky revo sparco repco knockoff pedals, so I sit it flat on the floor, and floor it, as it spools up, yep, there it goes again...
Slipping clutch...
How can it go from awesome yesterday to crappy today???
Tried it a few hours later and it's still doing it pulling in 3rd and 4th...
So it's time to swap it out only day one in, not to forget the whine that is now coming from the engine bay, sounds like a turbo charger and coming from the cam cover.
Car was so good yesterday... Ahh well them's the breaks. I'll blame it on my darling wife's touch of death. EVERY car she has driven somehow ends up with issues... hahaha

SOOO The question is clutches... As far as I can tell from pouring over the endless posts, the RVR will take the evo 1-3 clutches, the Exedy HD seems to be used a bit, Jim Berry uses them to mod, and the organic gets a mention too.
I also saw someone likes the 3+ clutch can't remember who it was from, but decently priced for the hp handling.
Obviously because my wife is driving it the majority of the time I was thinking the stock exedy one should be fine, as we aren't boosting anything for some time.
I did see Meek has the Ralliart one not sure if that is decent or not, can't be too bad considering they are selling it.
I saw some posts about running heavy clutches potentially causing crankwalk but Jim Berry elaborated on it more to someone and it may not be the only cause.
Now checking out the sump it appears I may have a 6bolt motor in there which should lessen the chance of crankwalking but I want a clutch that will be tough, be easy enough to drive daily and not cause too many issues, ie Crankwalking.
Also has anybody had a crack at it themselves?
If so how long did it take? I'm contemplating having a crack, I watched Jeffromobile do his and although looks complicated I reckon I could get it sorted.
Any other recommendations for clutches?

Awesome thanks, had a quick look at the exedy website, amazing what you can find on a normal serch compared to on your phone ahaha

The quick search said the MBK-6429 should fit the RVR and you just add HD or SO for heavy duty or sports organic at the end. HD is according to the chart the one to go for.

I am of the opinion that forged (forged pistons and rods can handle better temps for moderate bursts of high temp work, i.e. street or drag, honestly don't know about track) gear and pistons with no squirters help with crankwalk, saw an article of a guy who blocked the squirters and added two additional holes at the bottom of the thrust bearing, no wait must be top? ( the oil gallery part thingo) any way he also added another hole at the top/bottom, shit! now I'm confused again! Anyhoo he did this to get better flow to the bearing of death (thrust bearing @ centre of crank for those who are new) Don't know if this works (the extra holes), the theory being that clutch/clamp rofce exacerbates the crankwalk phenomenon, but I'm running 1000hp knife edged crank (yes, might be a hp wank) and forged all others and I'll be blocking off and drilling while running a HKS twin plate that I sniped for $85 on ebay! WOW, bragging like a wanker!! Yeah, I won't hold it against you if you hate the $h*t out of me, lol, you will have to stand in line though For some unknown reason 6 bolts don't suffer this symptom that makes grown men cry and oil pans turn a shade of metallic that even a hotrodder would be envious of.
And BTW George, I hope all is going well with your endeavours, I'd say three thumbs up mate, but you wouldn't want to know what the third thumb is! :p

You're a crack up Benzo and your absolutely correct, 6 bolts don't get crank-walk/crank end play, so just go for a strong clutch that you can afford deepsouth, exedy have a huge reputation for being a very good clutch. If it was a 7 bolt I'd be hesitant in putting a H/D clutch into it, as you say there are a few different theorys on why it happens.

Don't worry about the problems mate, once they're fixed, you don't have to worry about them happening again anytime soon! be specific on wether you're getting a 'late' or 'early' clutch. All I know is when I got one for my VL I didn't notice the ad said 'late clutch'. Meaning when the clutch engages in reference to the pedals travel.

My Rvr is pretty much the misses car and I'm pleased with it even after all the mucking around cause when you drive it, it's just a great all rounder car worth fixing and worth the time.

Running the Exedy HD Organic sprung centre in my s13. Bites extremely well, even with 3rd gear clutch dumps. It's a full face clutch as well, and has a pretty light pedal feel.

Also got another Exedy to go in the RVR as mine is pretty close to dying, been sitting on my shed shelf for about 6 months now.

Yeah you could just whack a clutch plate in, just check how much wear is on the pressure plate, no idea how tough they were standard but when I changed the clutch in the VL I didn't need to throw out my pressure plate, but did anyway and it was made in England and really fukn heavy! way more than the new one. STOOPID!

lWow benzo, that would have to be one of the most epic posts I've read.you can never have too much oil in my opinion.
Until i pull that box i won't know what it really is,so beret to err on the side of caution I'll probably skip 1000 hp clutch ;)
I'm leaning toward the sports organic only for the fact that I've read more in favour of it than the hd, i know don't believe everything you read but their are reviews based on experience. The only down side is obviously the lack of slipping with the organic. My wife has to do some reversing up a e very narrow w lane ways forr. Work.
Excuse the crazy text my phone does not like like deleting mistakes fur some reason. I'll do some more reading to establish a better ideaof what is going to be the best road to head down. I've just spent afew k getting my old mans car ready to sell really could have used the money fur this haha thems thes breaks though hey. Yeah mate once they are fixed it will be a reliable beast, I usually have buyers remorse about now, but I'm looking forward to the fixing and getting it sorted. a
