am already thinking about another engine for the jummy, even though the 93t hasnt even had the head bolted down yet! such is the bug that bites.
to my way of thinking, i dont see much reason to throw money at forged internals on a 93 when bigger engines are cheaper to build and will make same/more power with less boost or revs
i think the engine of choice is the 4g64 with twin cam head conversion and maybe td06 size turbo. run maybe 16-18psi boost and not rev it too hard. certainly forged pistons and perhaps forged rods
i have had a pretty good look around the www over the last couple of weeks, and from what i can gather, the head of choice is the big port 1g (and intake) as found on a vr4.
is the head the same on all engines with cyclone on the intake? i think this is the GSR galant and vr4. is there any other aussie sources?

do we have any side by side comparos with the hyundai sonata head? from what i can gather, the sonata head has larger ports than the evo1-3, but smaller than the 1g/ evo0 head. can some one offer conclusive proof?

and finally, i think the block of choice is a 6 bolt block. what aussie cars were they available in?

just to give something back, i believe that the great wall cars are fitted with a 4g64. so we will have a source of low mileage blocks for a while yet!

great wall are 4g97

i know there are a few topics regarding the dohc swap being difficult, but from what i have seen on other us sites, i really dont see this conversion being beyond my capabilities. other than the farmed out machiine shop stuff.
here is a 7 bolt conversion:

here is the 6 bolt hyundai block thread:

i like the hyundai one, cause it 6 bolt and prob easier to source and my favorite- cheaper

found this:

it suggests the hyundai g4cp head has 1g size ports. woo hoo
quoted here:

List of compatible DOHC Heads provided by member streetofrage
4g61[G4CR](92-95 Elantra)--1G Intake ports, smaller cc; Overseas has 2G size intake ports
4g67[G4CN](92-95 Elantra)--1G Intake ports, smaller cc
4g63(90-94 1G DSM)
(95-99 2G Mitsu/Eagle Turbo)
(92-98 Sonata[G4CP], 1G Intake ports)

righto, i have taken a $100 gamble and bought a sonata to steal the head off. nowhere can i find port sizes for it.
here are 1g and 2g sizes
http://www.roadraceengineering.com/1g2gheadswaptechtip.htm
he says:
1G intake port at the gasket is 60mm x 37mm, 2G measures 56mm x 28mm.... ouch! Throttle bodies are 1G - 60mm vs. 2G - 54mm

my sonata head is not measured with a vernier, just the tape measure at approx 55mm x 33mm and very oval in shape with a 65mm throttle body.
so it is slightly better than 2g head but smaller than the 1g.
interesting is that i have 1g gaskets in the intake and exhaust and that the never mentioned exhaust ports are smaller than the 1g gasket too. my thinking is that you have to get the bad out before you put the good in

now i want a 4g64 (or hyundai equivalent) for less than i paid for the head and i will be building the next engine.

oops, throttle body was measured at the mouth, not the throttle blade side, will edit when i pull it off

just as an aside, the place that i got sonata head from, the housemate just bought a 300zx twin turbo targa auto for $800. doesnt pull properly and inside is bit shabby but pretty good bargain i think. i said i would give him $400 for the front calipers ;)
