i have been told my car is blowing black smoke when i put my foot down and in the higher rev range? is this due to my car running rich or should i have somthing looked at? as my car is running rich at the momment but can not tune it due to not having a computer yet

it's not ideal, the fuel can contaminate the oil and hurt things like bearings...

you're also harming the earth, with unburnt fuel being blown out the back of the car... STOP GLOBAL WARMING!

it's better than running lean though! ...mine runs rich too, people in cars behind me say they can smell the petrol from inside their cabin :p

its not always, bad, a lot of really powerful cars run rich, otherwise they'll go boom. my mates got an sr20 180, 250kw atw, when he takes off he gets a little jet stream looking puff of smoke out the back. looks awesome. my car just got tuned, when i plant it i get a little bit of black smoke too. not always a bad thing, just dpeends how much fuel ur putting through..

Too much fuel can also glaze the bores, which effects ring sealing.

Not only that, but the extra fuel can wash the oil off the bores and wear the rings out prematurely.

Running rich is NOT good. If you are using the std computer and have confirmed that you are running rich, check for air leaks in the intake or a leaky Bov, these are the most common causes.
