ok some of you may have read that i recently completed a turbo upgrade on my evo (t67-25g)
I have been flogging this car and running nos on it for 5 years now with an unknown bottom end and have been waiting for the day that it expired

I took it for a shake down run on saturday and while trying to give it a hard time i found the car way down on power even compared to the standard set up.
I was trying to get the boost control sorted however it didnt seem to want to boost running about 12psi

in the end i gave the car a run in 1st,2nd and 3rd taking each to redline by then it was way down on power when i backed off the car was blowing large amounts of blue smoke

my initial thoughts where ring land damage as i had done in the past with a starion i owned

now i am stumped guys. i did a compression test on the evo today and it came back with 160psi on all cylinders.
I then took it for a drive to test it out further and to get it up to temp to try again and now it is not blowing any smoke.

now unless my wife snuck in to the garage and filled the motor with a genuine ralliart can of compression something is going on. (unlikely) ;)

during inspection i found no oil on the inlet side of the turbo, no trace of oil on the comp blades.
I ran the motor with both the oil filler cap removed to check for signs of blow by / gas
I also ran the motor with the dip stick removed to look for signs of the same.

time for some further investigation on why the power is down and why it was blowing so much blue smoke

I have a few ideas on what might be going on.
but i am open to suggestions

a few thoughts are
pcv valve blocking and causing the oil drain to struggle thus causing oil to well in the turbo bearings.
maybe a valve seating issue that is presenting only under certain conditions
possibly the oil feed for the turbo needs a restrictor fitted however i feel this would be unlikley due to the fact that i used the oil feed line that came with my turbo kit.

did it pop the dip stick out?.....usual first sign of high crank case pressure.

pressure relief valve in the oil pump. ....can get sticky with sludge when left to sit for a while. blows oil into the turbo.......just a thought

whilst i haven't had the problem there is one over here that does the same every now and a gain......even when left for just half an hour

So you obviously do not have a catch can setup? Try and obtain another oil filler cap and modify it to attach a nipple on it, then attach a boost gauge on the nipple to measure you crank case pressure. This should help identify any intermittent pcv issues. have you lost much oil at all?
