A couple of questions to some issues I've discovered when looking to set up the boost control with my SM4:

1. The Autronic manual indicates that a boost reference line is connected to the nipple on the Autronic. I thought this nipple was for the MAP reference and I've already plumbed it up to the intake manifold. How does the Autronic get Boost Reference? Does the Autronic need a physical hose connection or can it get a pressure reference from the solenoid used?

2. What solenoid are you guys using? I have the Apexi one from my AVC-R that I was going to use but am unsure if this would be suitable.

Am hoping to get this sorted in the next week so that I can get the thing down to the tuner within the fortnight.

1. boost/MAP same thing

2. should work

The solenoid does not measure pressure. Have a look in the autronic manual to determine whice wire/output you need to use, usually its something like DPO (digital pulsed output). The other wire should go to signal ground but double check. You can use the apexi solenoid just make sure you have the diagram for the ports.

Boost reference is obtained from your MAP sensor.

The wires you should go to would be a pwm output + 12v.

The 12v is what provides the solenoid power and the pwm output is a gnd which pulses at a certain frequency to allow your ecu to control your boost.

You will need to tune the solenoid to do what the ecu wants. This requires playing with offset tables and your main boost calculation.

Whoever tuning should be able to do all the above, if you want to wire it just give the solenoid +12v ign on power and a compatible sm4 pwm output.

That's ace - thanks fellas.

As I'm looking to sell the AVC-R, I thought I'd better free the AVC-R solenoid up so I can sell it with the unit, so I just purchased one of these off ebay:

In regards to the MAP reference, I've tee'd it off the outlet on the EVO intake manifold that usually references to the fuel pressure reg. I know the SM4 manual says to try and ensure the MAP sensor has its own hose, but the stock manifold only has one port.

Yeah I ordered it - delivery is 4-6 business days. Was only something like $60AUD landed.

Car is booked in for a tune Monday 9th May... B)
