Hey guys,

Looking at getting myself a boost controller to go with me new intake piping for my evo 3. Whats recommended, I am after an electronic one, not a bleed valve.

my personal opinion and suggestion - steer clear of turbosmart eboost

i have one at the moment and have had one for a couple of years, and although it does its job most of the time, i still didn't have an easy run getting it set up, and sometimes it still isn't 100% with boost stability.

1) its a prick to set up right - have had two people set it up on a dyno and it still spikes/isn't stable - could be other factors i guess...
2) eboost are overpriced
c) i know of someone else with a GSR, and someone with an xr6 turbo who have both complained about them in their cars / setup issues / boost stability.

ive heard great reports about the electronic boost Profec B controllers..but havent personally used one.

yeah mate electronic are the better... you have a rough price range... loads of options out there...

$400-$700 something like that. Just been checking out the Projec B spec 2, looks alright, I dont want some tacky screen, just something simple but with good performance.

I've installed several APEXI AVCR's for guys and for the $450-$600 price tag new or less 2nd hand they are an awesome product. They're a few years old now but still in production. They are simple to use, look good and do the job well! I have never met anybody who wasnt satisfied with them (yet).

Apart from that the Blitz SBC I-Color units are pure eye candy and can do much much more, even show colour digital images of boost guages, oil pressure etc but they are about twice as much  (Blitz pic below)

you can get a gizzmo ibc for around $400 ish. I've got one and it holds boost very well.
DITTO!!

I found that the Gizzmo has just as many features as some of the top of the line controllers. Besides the price, being compact acts as a boost guage in BAR and PSI, The main feature that attracted me is the ability of controlling boost for each gear. In my opinion the gizzmo controllers are very reasonably priced.

Since I work there, I ordered mine through Super cheap auto ;)

haha Since they pay me I had to drop a shameless plug. They don't just sell tent pegs, and dog harness, we can get some alright stuff. Fidanza flywheels, Crower cams, Garrett turbo's..

sorry, back on topic.. :p

I currently use a Blitz sbcd ID3 4 channels to choose from, holds boost well, adjustable spool. Works a treat.

I have been using the AVCR for 6 years and it has never really missed a beat. I do occasionally get a boost spike which gives me the shits because it hits my boost cut (1.45bar). I think it's got something to do with my hybrid turbo....

BTW, 6 years ago I paid $995 + installation...and at the time, it was on special!!!!

Shit I could install it myself I reckon, might be a bit of fun playing with it to get it setup though... should I attempt it?

Greddy Profec B Spec II :smt038

I have been lead to believe that the Profec B Spec II only has a 2 Bar MAP sensor and once above 2 Bar they become a little un-stable... some one here might be able to confirm that for me.

I've gone for an AVCR. I haven't had it installed or tuned but i researched fairly thoroughly when i bought it and it was a toss up between the gizmo and the AVCR in the end. Main reason was that it is supposed to be faily straight forward to setup and tune, and there are tonnes of places that have been tuning these for years.
