Hope this is on the right place guys..
Im having dramas with my 6 bolt 4g powered GC galant.
It basically happens when trying to change gears fast. 100% throttle 1st gear, let it rev out, hits 20psi. Change to 2nd fast and will only hit like 3psi while revving out. If I just casually change and then apply 100% throttle 2nd will hit 20psi and rev out no problems. It will happen every time, every gear. Even in 1st if i give it heaps of revs and drop the clutch it will only hit 3psi..
What am I faced with here? At first I thought it was a boost leak, Ive had a decent look and now I think The gate is playing up?
Any advice? Anyone had a problem like this before?
Thanks for any replies..

Do you have a BOV also?
Could that be malfunctioning (i.e. sticking open or is it connected correctly to vacuum/boost...) on these high pressure spikes?

So I checked all the lines to wastegate, all seemed ok. Check line off BOV, also looked good. Pulled my gate off and apart and it didn't seem out of the ordinary.. Also cleaned up my boost solenoid. Put it all back together and now it won't make above 6psi when supposed to be 20.. How can I eliminate the boost sol to make sure my wastegate is giving me the drama!?

So swap the 2 lines on the waste gate over? that should work?
1 comes from manifold. Tees into one side of boost sol. The other comes from other side of sol.
That should work yeah?

So I still haven't fixed this!!
Ive replaced the gate and all vac lines to it.
Do you think it could be a vacuum leak/boost leak?
Driving me crazy!

Doubtful it would be a boost leak matey. Have you tried replacing the boost actuator as well?
To me it sounds as if the actuator arm is slow to respond......

Boost controller is an E-boost 2. Boost actuator "arm"?
Going to run a vac line straight from inlet manifold to waste gate this arvo to try and eliminate this.

OK, I'm confused.... If he "casually" changes into 2nd, I can only assume that he is building boost rather than smashing the accelerator, how could it be a boost leak without hitting that damn wall that we hate sooo much?
We all have boost leaks at some point, but to 20psi and then not? Weird....

Junglehick, that arm attaches to a body. Controls boost matey. I have a feeling that arm gets jammed or similar and the slow(er) gear changes give the arm time to seat in a "proper" position before you bury your foot again.
Try this please... Drive in 2nd gear or higher and after a couple seconds just floor it. Tell us the results.
There is no doubt that we all have boost leaks but I believe that there is something more going on. Do a leak test anyway though, always a "go to" plan for the future once you know how to do it. Search on YouTube, all the information and how to's are there.
Cheers and best of luck buddy.

Thanks for your help.
Yes if I'm casually on highway in a higher gear. 100% throttle, it will build boost and hit 20psi.
Doesn't matter which gear I'm in it seems to be the gear changing. I have a few vids if i can work out how to post. If change gears and wait 2-3 seconds to get on the throttle it builds boost fine.. Ah yeah gotcha, inside the gate. I pulled my old one apart and it looked a bit nasty, also was 10 years old hence why I replaced it.
Again thanks for the help.
