Hi all,

This is my first post here and will most definitely not be the last. Just purchased a 93 CC GSR off a forum member start of last month. Really excited to continue working on this car. The original owner has done a great job so far.

The car has been running great up until the last two weeks I have noticed some issues with the boost. During the first week it was intermittant. One day the boost was definately there :), next day it just wasn't. Then it was back for a couple of days now (this week) boost feels non existant. Boost is at 12psi. When driving and the boost gauge needle gets over 0, the needle starts flickering (fluttering?) as it goes up and you can feel the engine wanting something to happen then it just kind of feels like it gives up. Gauge still gets up to and hovers around 12psi at full throttle but seems like nothing is getting into the engine.

I did do a smoke check to look for any intake leaks and found a loose hose which new clips were put on and tightened. I'm going to get a boost leak test done this weekend, but failing that the test doesn't show up anything, what would be the other things to test/look for?

I haven't had much experience with turbos before, so this is a new experience for me. ... be gentle.

Kind regards,

Michael

turbo charged engine don't like heat/ hot air. while there maybe an underliying issue bear in ind on hot days there is ever possibility that you will loose performance.

Hey man. Thanks for replying. I did think that it might of been heat related. I've tried starting it early in the mornings to beat the heat to see if that made a difference, but no dice.

doesn't sound like a boost issue...if the needle still gets to 12psi

the things you're describing are more like a miss.

two things to consider....fuel or spark.

spark being the easy one and probably the cause of problem in this case.
replace spark plugs...drive and check...if the problem is still there swap the leads with a known good set....drive and check....if the problem is still there...swap coils with a known good set.

problem still there after that.....change the fuel pump....then the fuel filter....then injectors clean.

problem still there....kick neighbors cat.....burn car ...claim insurance

Thanks guys (gals?) for all the quick and helpful replies.

@khubner1 I was only just reading about the actuator problems on this forum just before you posted and will be checking that out this weekend. Apparantly a common problem is a pin rusts out that holds the arm onto the flapper?

@BMGTZ I was planning on changing the leads and plugs this weekend and bought some today, so I will probably do this first before anything now. As for the fuel pump, it has a performance Walbro fuel pump which I initially thought was faulty due to the zzzzzz noise it makes (i thought it was struggling?), but I have been told that this is "just the noise it makes". Pity I wasn't told that before I bought a brand new one for it (generic). Oh well can't hurt to have spares right? And I will see how the plugs and leads make a difference before I check the other stuff.

Thanks so much again guys. This forum is the bees knees.

It was spark. Looks like a bit of moisture got to one of the plugs so I'm a bit concerned about that.

Checked actuator arm + flapper, all fine. replaced fuel filter anyway, pump is functioning fine. Did an oil change. Cleaned Pod. Back in action now.

Neighbours cat is safe... for now.

@Craig I took off the stock and put on a GFB Mach1 (came in the spare parts box that came with the car) didn't make a difference, except that it stalled it heaps. Obviously not tuned properly? Put stock back on.

Well done on sorting the issue.....but keep an eye on that damn cat.

re the BOV...if you can get an evo 10 one it will look and fit stock but will have a higher functional load....which means better boost holding capacity.

BUT any evo valve will also have a higher pressure threshold too. There was one sold on ebay the other day for 99 cents

something like this will work well and look stock to any prying eyes. you only need to extend the hose to the nipple as it the nipple faces the other way

or one of these just piss off the swivel nipple they leak!

Nearly hit to neighbours can with the car today... boosting away.

Wow 99cents! Thats crazy! I like look of that turbosmart one and will look at investing in a new valve soon. The stock one is fine for now until I save up some money.

i have the turbosmart one it's made of all metal very sturrdy desighn apart from the swivel nipple leaking i can't fault it!
