I bought this off the person who won it from auction and I plan on getting it shipped to canada. This rvr is sitting now in Perth at my friends house awaiting a new windscreen oven installed at the end of the month.
This rvr also has a problem going into reverse; it can be selected from the shifter inside but it grinds when letting the clutch pedal out . Does anyone have any ideas what to check? I need it to work before it gets shipped over obviously

Some things I’ve been told :
-Check the spring loaded ball bearing for the reverse select
- check the reverse switch on the gearbox
- check if the shifter lines aren’t bent and that you can select or the reverse is actually being selected from the gearbox

Its easy to reach the shift linkages when the hood is open and put it into reverse that way.

If it wont go in like that and the forward gears work and drive fine the I reckon its likely the gearbox is damaged

G'day guys. Long time since last post.
The hyper is my old girl. Looks like it still has the NT plates on it in pic . As for the gearbox, even had Mike (can't think of his last name but was the Evo gearbox guru around Holden hill) pull the box down about 10 years ago to try and fix, but reverse issue was never sorted. Rest of gearbox was totally rebuilt around 150km.
I sold hyper in Darwin to guys in Darwin for about $500 as roof was full of lines of rust bubbling through, and I was sick of reverse gear issue. Probably a few posts from me about reverse gear issue years ago. Sort of glad to see it didn't get scrapped. Still had plenty of get up and gear moving forward though. Nice to see my old Evo club sticker still in window. Engine was rebuilt by Steve knight many moons ago.

Forgot to add. It would always go into reverse very easily, just that it would jump out when loaded up from releasing clutch. Could sort of move in reverse by riding clutch. Don't bother wasting time with spring loaded indent balls. We already tried that. Cheers.

Oh wow! This is awesome to hear haha. This car will be making its way to canada :) but I’d like to get the reverse sorted Beforehand. The spring loaded balls was one idea I was told to check. The wave spring also if it’s missing altogether could be the cause . What else have you done/checked ?
