Hey guys, I have a feeling my BOV is jamming again, checked it last night and it's not jammed open but I think it's struggling with the boost levels I'm running (24-25psi) and is sticking during operation, even after pulling it apart and fully servicing it. (GFB plumb back - 2nd hand)

I stupidly sold my Evo 8 MR valve, however I'm not sure this would have held my boost levels either - can anyone confirm?

Thinking about getting one of those Turbosmart Kompact plumb back valves, but again not sure if its going to hold the boost.

I just want something plumb back, that will clamp on, that is either black or that I can hit with the spray can and make black.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the input, I'm going to disconnect the vac line on my valve and take it for a spin over the weekend as a troubleshooting exercise. If the issue goes away the I'll start looking for a new valve.

Im not sure that line discoed will help. Boost will push the valve open and you will have no pressure in the vac line to hold it shut.
Need to fill the top with pressure and clamp it off....not sure how you could do it. Thinking oil or water but thats no good...

Yeah, I might just pull it out and plug the holes with something, the trick is going to be finding something that won't turn into a projectile at 25psi!

Otherwise I'll need a new BOV and a new bonnet...

Yea man, Im just unsure of what ya gfb valve looks like in regards to the in and out hole sizes, if there the same then all good!

Yeah they are the same, around 32mm from memory, should be able to flip it around no problem.

I've been in touch with sales at Turbosmart and they've recommended the regular Type 5 Plumb back unit due to the amount my turbo flows. Apparently the Komact may be a bit touch and go at the flow rates.

Well I just tried the backwards BOV trick (thanks BYBY5L), and it appears the problem is gone. Nice, steady, fast boost build up and no hesitation or boost creep/fluctuation.

Now the question is, do I buy a new spring for the GFB or do I go for something with a bit more capacity?

All good man, if ya do get a new spring then check for any grooves on the piston or cylinder, might be an idea to give it a light sand to smoothen off any burred edges,
or if ya plan for more boost further down the track, then it might be a good idea to go something with abit more flow

Last time I pulled it off when it jammed open there was some light scoring on the piston. I hit it with some scotch brite and cleaned and re lubed it.
I'm not sure if this valve isn't just too small and can't handle the boost levels. I might end up having the same issues with the new spring.
Not keen on spending $300 on a brand new valve though...
