whats the best way to do this? The calipers i have have a fair bit of surface rust on them

wire brush? primer then hi-temp?

dunno....

any ideas?

sand blast = removing the caliper which = bleeding brakes

im my opinion, its gonna get dirty anyway (dust),
just make em a lil prettier with the colour, but they wont stay like that..

had a mate do his one gold, high temp paint, its now orange and yellowish..
the heat got to it i guess...

another friend has done his wrx in red, looks good, just a little dusty..
but he doesn't drive his car often...

i've had a friend do his in red by just masking the caliper without removing a bolt..., looked good for a dodgy job..

anyway
what colour are you thinking?

bmw brake cleaner + wire brush

of course you'd need a mate that works for bmw. a dodgey mate that has a boot full of the stuff

Theyre not on the car yet, so makes things a little easier..... ill have a crack at it today and see how it goes.

as for colour, no idea..... probably just black or charcoal or something like that.... or if i feel a little colourful, probably some shade of blue.

If they aren't on the car, then in all seriousness, run them down to a sandblaster, they'll do them on the spot in under 10 minutes for like 10 dollars.

Save you a -lot- of screwing around.

brakes

don't buy Black high temp paint by Septone (ex supercheap), it handles the heat but it is a mid grey colour, not black.

My brother redid his 300ZX calipers in gloss black "brake caliper" paint (it's actually a type of resin) and it came out very well!

my 2 month old slotted dbas look like **** now coz of rust, where do i get the paint from and would paint shops do it? I am horrible when it comes to painting anything.

no rust where the pads hit, but small amount of rust on very inside and on middle where it goes onto hub.
