Hey guys,

Any recommendations on some brake pads? I want something that doesn't wear the rotors too much. I haven't gone to "track" days etc, just the "spirited" drive, so doesn't have to be hardcore.

Looking probably towards some Project Mu pads, maybe Bestop or Type NS, or maybe some Ferodo DS2500 or Ferodo DS Performance (don't think DS have pads to suit evo1-3 though)?

Lady (seemed really nice btw) at DBA said not to get some EBC pads (I can't remember what colour she had), reckons she went through two sets of rotors, and I don't want to keep buying rotors (not rich :p). Endless seem far too expensive?, and reading the net seems the Bendix will chew your rotors, so yea I don't know, thought it was best to ask here and some stores etc.

Thnx.

EBC's 'used' to have a bad reputation for warping rotors but that was ages ago. Ive used the Green Stuff pads and wasnt too happy with the 'cough' performance or dust from them on my car. I also got them to fade quite easily even with slotted rotors. Ive stepped up to the Red Stuff now which is probably what I should have gotten in the first place as a street friendly and spirited run pad with minimal dust. I've already fitted them and will see how they go when the car is back on the road. Yes, the NZ boys including Jarred ^^^^ like the Carbotech AX6's. I havent had first hand experience with them but read on their website that the noise and dust levels produced from the pad isnt suitable for a street car.

Probably will pass on the AX6, this is from their own site
"Many drivers use the AX6™ for street driving as well, even though Carbotech™ doesn't recommend street driving with AX6™ due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise"

Not interested in noise or dust tbh

I swear by the XP8s over the AX6s but they only really work when bedded in properly, if they aren't they just chew rotors.

With twin pots the XP8s are noiseless, the AX6s will be too and be kinder on your rotors. As for dust, they're no worse than DS2500/DS3000s, except easier to clean off.

Run Bendix ultimates or a QFM HPX. Why do you need great pads if it is for only a spirited drive? Just put in some great fluid and slow down when the pedal gets spongey.

I Judy purchased some QFM pads myself... I've always used them on the rear but will now be running then up front.. Will advise....

I ran A1RMs at the track on my old EVO II calipers and also on the Brembos and they were fine. Had a higher wear rate compared to the DS3000s I am running now though. I would recommend the HPXs as they are more street friendly over the A1RM as I had to drag my foot to get some heat in them prior to having confidence in stopping.

Ah forgot about my thread. Thanks for the input so far guys, need to get some pads, only thing left :)

Product ---- Friction Co-Efficient ---- Temp Range
ELIG SP - 0.38 to 0.50 - 0-500 - $105 Meek
PROJECT MU TYPE NS - 0.37 to 0.40 - 0-400 - $179
PROJECT MU BESTOP - 0.30 to 0.38 - 0-350 - $155
QFM HPX - 0.41 to 0.42 - 0-550 - $79 GSL Rallysport

1. Elig seems to high too high friction for my liking I guess. If I could get the S ot the S+ version, it would be better, but I'm going to say its difficult to find
2. Type NS is probably the one I'd prefer but the price just seems too high, made in Jap is always good but yea, expensive it seems.
3. QFM HPX seems like the ones to buy I guess, are they noisy? DB1223 is the part number right?

Anything else I should look at? Hawk HPS? GSL also have Remsa which they seem to like, might give them a call.

i see a lot of project Mu pads from newly imported evo with the usual matching pink calipers.. so must be popular over in japan on the track...

I had project mu's on my R6, then had NS in the standard callipers on the GSR have gone too Project mu "club racer" with my new set up an I wouldn't even look at anything else now they are un real on the track an pretty good from cold when I use it on the road

I'd have to give the project mu pads the thumbs up too. I had b spec installed with a new set of dba slotted rotors. Took a while to bed them in but IMO better than anything you'll find mainstream for the price. The heat range of the b spec and club racer pads is quite a bit better than anything in their price range as well and was what sold them for me. I've also tried endless pads and hawk pads on track cars and the mu's are pretty close to being as good with far less wheel dust

While on the subject of brakes (as much as I'd like to force the Carbotech pad thing down everyones throats) I would recommend everyone read the technical pages here: http://www.stoptech.com/technical-support/technical-white-papers
In particular:
"The "Warped" Brake Disc and Other Myths of the Braking System"
"Pad and Rotor Bed-In Theory, Definitions and Procedures" and
"How to Bleed Brakes - The Right Way"

If you can read and TRUELY (Yes, Ive CAPS'D, BOLD'D and ITALLIC'D that fucker) understand those pages, you'll have more of an idea about braking than a good proportion of "Braking specialists" out there.
