hey boys

well yes....... EPA'd for the first time THIS year, and about the 4th time in the last 6 months.....

havent got the letter yet, but i went through a booze bus last night, and the officer in charge looked over my car asking me all sorts of questions..... and actually did know what he was on about.... didnt give me a defect notice, but noted in his book my rego and some details and said "the EPA will be getting in contact with you"

my question is this - would my car be emissions legal with the mods i have done? just to re-cap quickly

stock internals
TD05
cooler
walbro pump
catch can

stock ecu, AFM and injectors

what u guys reckon?

cheers

dan

exhaust is cool...... i have a holden SS mid section muffler with a matching flange for such occasions......

but catch can isnt vented.... runs out of rocker cover ---> catch can ---> back into intake

that sux!

normally dont they just check noise level and the basics?
eg . bov / catch can / air filter etc?..

if they just let you through but have a glance at your car could they do the epa letter?

the police dude was looking at my exhaust as I was driving slowly off
but it apears standard

ahhh fark it

im used to it.

i just think its bullshit that YOU have to pay for your car to get tested. I dont want to test it... so why should i have to pay for it?

from experience, if my memory serves me correctly, the emissions test is free... and no, it isnt a short drive! its out in Mcleod.

i'll be moving down to victoria in about 4 months..

my vr4 wouldnt get a roadworthy let alone pass an epa inspection , if my car is qld reqistered ( which it will be ) can i get marched off to this EPA you speak of?

how likely is it a modded car will get bailed up to go there ?

pretty likely..... theyre c#@ts down here, and theyre just about to introduce a new law that gives the cops the authority to impound your vehicle on the spot if you get done for drag racing, burnouts, drifting etc etc...... for up to 48 hours (plus a nice fine id imagine)

having said that, if your car is registered in QLD, an you have a QLD license, doesnt that mean that even if your interstate, if your car is deemed roadworthy in your home state, it shouldnt matter down here??

Troy (WRCVR4) is in the same boat.......

You've got 3 months from date of entry into vic to change your rego over or the cops will plaster you for driving an unregistered vehicle.

After that, prepare to be raped without lube.

Prior to that, prepare to enjoy yourself excessively. Worst they can do is say you can't drive your car in vic :p No EPA/Unroadworthy notices tho.

tharaka said:
no, they're not dumb at the epa

the catch can might be a problem if its vented

what about your exhaust?

They aint no rocket scientist LoL

Cathc can out
Aix box on
Any boost hide
And a stock exuahst from cat back
U will be fine

I don't know if that's right lorrie...

I am pretty sure that no matter what state you are in your car has to comply with its laws... being registered in another state is no excuse. Think of displaying P plates for example. I had to do it in Vic even though my car was registered in QLD and I have a QLD license.

The registration thing is a bit iffy... I'm not sure if there is any fine associated with having your car registered in another state for over 3 months but yeh the law says after that long you are to change it.

You can definately be given an unroadworthy if you are in another state. Just means you have to go back to the state it's registered *and* roadworthy in ;)

i'll be doing none of this vic registration nonsense, if i get pulled up i'll just tell em im down there for the handshakes & will be goin soon..

if i get pulled up again i'll tell em iv left & now im back!

i'm only gonna be there for a bit under a yr anyway

i put a straight intake on it & its even louder now.. im gonna get so many fines :(

Most guys I know who have put a VR4 engine into their cars (Lancers) need to pass an Emissions test before an Engineer Signatory will sign off on it. From what I understand theres an EPA testing facility in Penrith and Botany in Sydney who do it. Question I wanna know is, with worked motors what are the tricks of the trade to lower your noise and emissions outputs? If you have an aftermarket ECU would you totally just de-tune it? drop boost to almost non existent? run a different fuel mix? run an extra catalyc converter? I'm dreading getting mine tested

Last thing I wanna do is have to chuck in a completely stock VR4 engine just to get it engineered, then after rego whip it out and put in the good motor, then have the replacement 2 litre turbo engine number details changed over on the rego papers
