Hey guys im new to the forum and evo's...After a head doing amount of research I still dont have the answer im looking for so im hoping someone on here could give me an answer or point me in the right direction..

I was in the market for a GSR, ive been looking for a couple months now and the more i look the more i would rather a genuine evo after stumbling across the odd one here and there. My problem is from what ive gathered theres been alot of issues with evo 2's & 3's with registration in NSW and Victorian importers bringing in cars seperatly (Shell and running gear appart) and reassembing them here in AUS to get them engineered & registered. In this case if i understand correctly the VIN on these cars would contain the word "rebuild" or words similar to that, whereas a properly complianced car will have "import"

Now my problem is im from Sydney and im looking at a evo 2 in VIC which in my opinion after a few months of research is rather cheap.. $12,000 compared to others ive seen which has got me interested. Im prity sure its a genuine as interior is all recaro (headrest not seperated), digital climate, flared front guards, arial on rear left qtr not driverside caint rail, rear window wiper and obviously a 63t not 93t etc etc...

The issue is if this car has been complianced as a rebuild not an import how am i to find out which it is and if i can register it in nsw? The last thing i want to do is buy a car from VIC & bring it to NSW only to find out ive bought a lemon i cant register.

Not sure if my rambling makes sense or if anyone can help LOL

Cheers!
Dave.

Hey mate, welcome to the club.....

First off- if it's the EVO i'm thinking of (Grey EVO 2) then yes it is an original EVO- it's evolutionary's old car, now owned by WyDa I believe.

I'm sure one of the guys will correct me if i'm wrong, but only yellow plate personal imports are able to be registered in N.S.W.

There was 2 ways that import cars were able to be registered under the loop hole- '6T9REP' Repairable write off VIN's were done in VIC and '6T9REB' Rebuild VIN's were done in S.A and VIC. Like I said, the only state AFAIK that doesn't allow cars with these VIN's to be registered in AUS is N.S.W.

Such a shame too, because you get a whole lot more car for your money! (I've owned both GSR's and EVO)

Ur a champion thanx for that I was hoping maybe someone one here would no the car I was on about lol
Well yea now repairable write off have been ruled out too only good for parts or scrap metal now :-/
I guess il hav to settle for a gsr with a 4g63t conversion and get that engineered which isn't too bad i guess but knowing me il chase dwn as many original parts as I can to make her as close to a genuine as I can bracing, body, interior the lot =]

Thanx again for your help bud appreciate it!

Yellow plate EVO's do pop up every now and then- you just have to be ULTRA patient, that's all....

There are also some GSR out there owned by people like you that have opted to go for everything from an EVO- bracing, rear window with wiper, plastic bodykit etc etc but building the car that way can turn out to be very expensive- and when it comes to sell it, it's still not technically and 'EVO'.....

that Grey one your talking about has been sold to a forum member within the last month, I dont want to say his name just incase he doesnt want me to spread the word of his new ride

all the bits you described climate , rear wiper etc can all be swapped over also to a CC GLXI including the 4wd system , so always look for the VIN on the firewall CE9A-000XXXX

I did find out the other day that if you have a 6TREP or REB , you can reg it in NSW as along as its been in the system for over 2 years , I still am not 100% on this but I have seen a few of these chassis numbers registed in NSW , ( it would pay to ask your local registration place to make sure )

I'll find out in the next few days if it's true, I need to renew my license so I might as well ask while I'm there :)

I couldnt register my evo 1 with repv vin number but that was just one and i had no history of the vehical either....

Yea very true.. although this hobby is very expensive eitherway lol.. im selling my calais for $15k & it owes me close to $30k.. ul never get back what u put into it, its just the way the game goes i guess you do it for the love of it loll

Oh right, thats interesting... So do you mean it might (subject to confirmation) be possible to register a 6TREP or REB in NSW as long as its been in the system for two yrs on the NSW system only or all states?? For exaple: I buy a "REB" from VIC & bring it into NSW & would be able to register it if it was done over two years ago in Vic?

Anyone happen to know if a engineers report would help with NSW registration? I may be looking at selling my Evo 1 soon, and I have the engineers report for it. I haven't heard of too many other non yellow plates that have an engineers report, which is why i'm curious. Think mines a REB number from memory.

6T9REP' & '6T9REB' evo 1-3 cannot be registered in NSW according to RTA VIIU Vehical Identification Inspection Unit's Chef Anthony at Botany RTA
who just so happens to be my cousins neighbour.

I when through this extensively age's ago to chase up for a mate who has a REB owned if for 8years and has always resided in nsw, its always Vic registered BTW

He has moved to QLD and has changed the rego finally to QLD rego.

The only NSW registered Evo's I know of in NSW are all Yellow plates

or
have ce9a0000XXXX vin's on the fire wall but have been registered as GSR's with a GSR alloy build plate been swapped over on the fire wal!

Dodgy I know but where there's a will? there's a way!

If you want a Evo 1,2,3 road registered in NSW its written above.

Hey Wicky, my wife bought that yellow plate EVO III ^^^ :)
Can we join EVO OZ now?

Read below:

Guys, its a 100% legit yellow plated EVO III. I checked the rego papers and paid for an RTA History report on it and the history and chassis and engine numbers check out.
Like PROGSR stated above, it has the yellow plate on the firewall and the last 4 numbers of the VIN/Chassis number stamped on the top of the 'DRIVERS' strut tower (not passenger tower like the Aussie cars have). On either side of the 4 numbers on the driver's strut tower is a specially stamped Japanese symbol of some kind which I suspect would be to stop any additional numbers being added on either end of it.
The RTA history check records that it was imported and first registered in NSW in June 2005 by the original owner. It was then sold to the current owner who has owned it for just over 5 years. It also states that it has only ever had 2 owners since 2005 - the report checked out when I questioned the seller about its history.
You know me, I know these cars like the freckles on my wife's back I went over it with a fine tooth comb trying to debunk it, but no matter how hard I tried I couldnt find any evidence to suggest otherwise.
Therefore my wife and I found ourselves presented with a very rare opportunity to purchase a genuine NSW rego EVO III and may never get an opportunity like this again for... well..... probably never again. So after giving it the thumbs up, my wife said fuk the 380 VRX we looked at earlier in the day and bought the EVO III before the EBay auction ended
The seller was looking for $16-17k for it and would never have settled for the price it ended on EBay for. I guess he didnt cancel the auction but he did state that he reserved the right to end the auction early if it sold outside of Ebay.
I guess that makes her the 3rd owner since 2005 now. She has gained some extra street cred amongst my friends now so it looks like her Ralliart Magna will be up for sale soon

UPDATE: Received an email from V-imports Insfrastructure Branch today after we requested a copy of the Letter of Complaince when we questioned the non-fitment of a Compliance Plate to the EVO III we bought on the weekend.
Hope this helps anybody who is looking to buy a genuine EVO I-III for Road Registration in NSW in future :)

Dear Mrs ***********

I am sending you a letter today which confirms the Vehicle Import Approval details for your vehicle.

When a vehicle is imported under the Personal Imports Scheme it is not required to be fully complied which is why it has its special yellow sticker stating that the vehicle is a Personal Import. Hence there is no compliance plate fitted to the vehicle and it does not need to be.

Before a vehicle is issued with a Personal Import plate is must satisfy a registration and safety test as the State/Territory regulations. Two certificate are then signed: one is posted to Niddrie Nameplates who make up the plate and the other goes to the Registration Authority to allow registration. The owner does not keep this certificate and we do not keep a copy here. We are only responsible for the issuing of the import certificate, but not registration.

A vehicle imported under this scheme does have a Statement of Compliance or a Letter of Compliance as it is not required.

The letter I have sent you should be sufficient for you to get your vehicle registered.

Regards

Sue Adam

Wow great price mate! Was watching that too.

Do you have a family car too? Or is it all 4wd turbo cc lancers at your place?

You going to post a rides thread on it, I'd like to see it again
