Hey guys,

im basically looking into getting one of these things, and need to know if im going to fit or not.

are there any of you based in Victoria, Melbourne preferably, that have a manual HSG that I could come and have a seat in?

If you start shopping for an RVR... let me know, I've bought 2 in the past, 1 lemon and 1 good one. I know all the things to look out for, all the problems they get and the 30,000 little bits that differentiate optional extras from factory.

My housemate is about 6 foot 3, weighs a good 130 kg. He much prefers the RVR to the galant, the roofline is taller and theres more room in the footwell. He actually doesn't want me to sell it cause he doesn't want to be driven around in the galant hehe... Oh plus cause its tall it's much easier for him to get in and out of as well (ie, he doesn't have to sit down as far). The doors are also taller.

With that said, the rear seats are not as tall (ie, there is not as big a foot well in it as in a galant/normal sedan), and his knees are somewhere around his ears in the back. (unless the seat is all the way back and he can stretch his legs out). He actually preferred riding in the back of my old 300zx (z31) to the RVR (apart from, of course, getting in and out).

If you've had a GSR lancer and you can tolerate it, the RVR will be wonderful :D
 
I can't stand the pedal position and general seating position of the RVR and I'm 5'7.
Pedals are to close to the flat firewall, so ankles are always in weird position.
seat is to 'blocky' and you can't slope your leg angle.
Steering wheel is on a slightly up angle, so you can't tilt the seat back enough to get comfortable.

In the end, the FTO is a nicer long distance car... go figure.
 
I was tossing up modifying my spare set of FTO seats and fitting them instead, bit more comfy and alot more adjustable.

But think the head side bulges would foul the B pillar.
 
Hmm I must say that I agree, the seating position is odd compared to a sedan, (i'm 5 7 as well), and it took a bit to get used to, but I don't know about the pedal position being weird. I like how the footwell is wider, In the galant if I wore wide shoes I'd always get my feet tangled up in the pedals. I don't know about ankle position, I'll think about it when I go to uni.. do you have a HSG, ie recaros Dan? When I backed the galant out the other day for paul to pick it up I remember thinking that the pedal position is much less easy to deal with, but I really felt more comfortable with the steering wheel - I agree on that point. In a galant the steering wheel axis effectively points at my neck, in the RVR it points at my head. If I drop the angle of it using the tilt steer it's too low.

I think being taller would make the steering wheel angle better, as then your shoulders are more aligned with the angle it points at you. How do you find the steering wheel angle something wild? It's weird to think about that as it DOES point upwards, more so than any japanese person would be comfortable with...
 
No, I have the SSG seats, which are still very wrap around, unlike Nimbus seats, but not as much as recaros.
Kind of a mid way seat.
Still comfy, though I always feel like I'm on a slight angle to the car, like in a lambo.... don't know why

my SG seats sagged on the right hand side, I think from sliding in and out of the car so often. my HSG's are the same...

Your drivers right seat cushion can be repadded by a friend here when you're down for $120.

Yeah, my bolsters aren't too bad, right one has seen slightly better days.
But for me it actually feels like the seat geometry is on an angle, so it's facing toward the centre console more.
It's hard to describe, but needless to say, measuring has shown no fault..... I really don't know..
 
Rockabilly, the fabric was half torn when i bought it, as for the padding, yeah, I agree it needs work

@Dan, I think the SG had an adjuster for this... I remember something somewhere allowing me to do it

Yeah i do find the steering angle somewhat strange dude, a little bus like if that makes sense...i drive an 09 forester alot of the time and even though they are similar machines (both mid sized and awd), the foz is much more 'car' like. But, i'm used to the rvr now and as mentioned, a find it very comfortable all up
 
YES it is just like a bus! Hehehe... I thought about the pedal angle thing, and you're kinda right, but I only find the clutch angle awkward. Not when my foot is pressed on it though. I think that's actually good cause it forces you to not rest your foot on the pedal.
