hey guys,

looks like I'll be doing the cams and some cam gears now, dammit! :p

I'm looking at two different brands, OBX or Fidanza. The OBX gears are about $60 cheaper, they both offer the same level of adjustment, they're both aluminium etc.

What colour should I go for? Red, blue or silver? :p

Mat :)

There was a group buy recently for Buddy club tuner and pro series adjustable cam gears...I don't know what all the rage was as IMO, they don't look anything special and are relatively expensive. I've just installed a set of clear (silver in appearance) Fidanza's...they look a million dollars and apparently are of excellent quality.

Yeah when it comes to gears I wouldnt be concerned with how they look. Main points to watch for are how thin the 'spokes' are at the centre and/or outer where it attaches to the teeth section.
Go for a proven brand/product, cost shouldn't be involved....tight ass :p

i have still seen the later type hks gears wearing on the belt face pretty heavily. all the anodising comes off then they wear like mad.

i have seen 3 early sets and 2 late sets with the same wear on the face

+1

I've heard some ordinary reports on these gears - mainly wear of the anodising but heard reports of them stripping teeth. I'm not a big fan of the purple either.

Here's the Fidanza's on my car...

Good to see the engine is atleast in the car. Are you still running the factory exhaust manifold?!

They look good but they just don't look like the have a lot of meat between those circle cut outs, not for my liking anyway. You haven't even adjusted them yet lol get cracking. (Yes I know the pic is from when the engine wasn't running.
