driving home from my mates place last night and i was changing cd's and i noticed my car was ticking.. ALOT.. turned off my music and listened to it and it seemed to tick alot when i was holding a constant acceleration but once i slowed down or accelerated it would go away..

anyways i got to a set of lights and as i shifted down gears the revs dropped down past 1000rpm and the oil light came on.. now i thought something was up.. decided to go past the lights and check what was going on but before i knew it i couldn't take off.. the car just lost revs and stalled.. i tried startin it again and it wouldn't start unless i gave it some gas and managed to drive it just past the intersection to the side of the road..

popped the bonnet and i could hear a bubbling sound from the motor? i didn't know what it was.. i checked for leaks and couldn't find any, checked coolant levels and checked oil, all fine.. car wasn't blowing smoke either.. after that i was too scared i'd damage the engine so i just got it towed home.. gotta love racv free 20km towing...

so whats up with my car? i don't know whats wrong with it.. car hasn't seen past 5000rpm since the new pistons were in..

Damn olly! you really are lucking out aye!

maybe its been tainted by the "expert" endowed workshop you take it to ...... :smt011

how many times has the car been back there to fix shit that wasnt done properly in the first place? I think you should look for a new mechanic :!:

Remember this car runs an SAFC and ITC.. so seriously it could be something to do with tuning.. However give Darren a call as im sure your motor rebuild is under warranty because you get your car serviced there..

Jon

the safc and itc have not been touched since i've bought it.. it has run fine since and from my narrowband o2 sensor on my turbo time it has not shown any point to lean out.. runs rich when boost kicks in.. i know its a narrowband but still would give me a ROUGH indication if i am running lean what so ever..

as for tuning, since gettin the new pistons my car has not been pushed hard at all.. needle RARELY goes past 4500rpm

anyways i'm going to give darren a call sometime this week and see what we are going to do.. my uncle came over and he told me its more then likely something in the head so cams or something there abouts.. he just doesn't know the extent of the damage..

anyways i'm just runnin out of luck (again) and at this point i cbf and just feel like selling the car off but we'll have to see what the outcome is..

hey mate,
dont start the car

if the oil light went on, it means u had really low oil pressure...
usually when u see that light, its too late!!

anyway, take it back to darren, he built the motor, let him tear it down..
sounds like something has seized...

hopefully its not too bad..

thanks for the heads up baz..

btw how does low oil pressure affect the engine and how does it occur?

Ever had sex when there wasnt enough lubrication? what happens? same principal but in your engine... low oil volume getting to lubricate components of the engine causes friction between 2 metal surfaces which in turn causes heat then eventually wear, failure, seizure or breakage

      Nice analogy!

Maybe your oil pump shit itself.. and as has already been stated with the lubrication, all signs don't point to good.

yeah well it should of all been checked out before i got my car back so will find out what i'm going to do with it tomorrow..

shit happens mate,
if its a builder fault, u should be able to find out when u crack it open..
if it was something you did, same as above also..
tune fault, same as above...

hopefully it wasn't your fault..
keep us updated!

might even be something simple..

hopefully when they drain your oil, it'll be clean
good luck mate!

No worries mate get it in and we'll check it out !!!! As all our work is covered by our 12 month/20000km which ever occurs first warranty, so anything we've done wrong we'll sort it, as we stand by what we do 100%!!!! hoping it's only a hose off and the noise is just good ol 4G93T lifters acting up !!!?? But anyway we'll see tomorrow I guess

First off i am very surprised jstyle isnot starting a website about how bad the workshop is that did the job.
Not that i have anything against AFAS.
I would just like to make a point here.
But back to the topic.
Lifters will tick initially with low oil pressure first somtimes before the light will glow.
The car at worst could have a spun bearing on a big end but this is what you dont want and check all you can to disprove around it.
Oil pick up may be loose/blocked.
Oil gallery cap in head could have been left loose.
rear balence shaft bolt in oil pump could be loose.
Front balence shaft bolt loose.
Balence shaft bearings may have spun.
Even a forign body from intercooler piping may be stuck beside a piston but wont effect oil pressure.
Oil squirter may have been left loose/broken.
Broken rocker arm.
These are just some of the issues that we have seen from time to time when cars get brought to us from around the place.
Most of it will be human error caused by a number of reasons in a workshop situation.
Any how you did the right thing by towing it straight away.
That will keep your workshop in a better position to be able to fix the issue.
Any how have a few late nights on us and good luck.

This is not a shit fight thread.
Please do not start one.

This is to help Olly get his car back to driving spec again.

AFAS seem to be on top of it.

Take it to PM please.

Location in your profile please Chris. (Yes I know your in Sydney  OTHERS dont however).

Thankyou
