Hey guys,

Was just about to make a post thinking my car key ignition barrel was farked (the key was tight to push all the way in and tight to come out) but I reliased it looks like my key is bent and had it. The key ignition barrel seems fine with the spare key, so am I able to find a similar/stock Mitsubishi key from ebay or mitsubishi and go to a locksmith and cut up a new key? Any ideas on price? I dont want a crappy looking flat key, thats all :)

Thanks,
lefty.

im pretty sure you could get a blank key from a newer model from mitsubishi and then get it cut, thats what i did with my nissan a few years back and plan doing with the evo..damn ugly oldschool keys....

spotted a pair of genuine mitsubishi blanks on ebay a few months ago, think they went for $25,no doubt mitsubishi wants a bit more for them!!

Yeah I would think you can still get a blank key the same from Mitsubishi, It should'nt be all that expensive either, the new car keys with imobiliser chips in them are the expencive ones!

Hey Lefty are they going to have the mitsu symbol etc on the main part of the key? If so I would be keen to see a pic when you get a chance.

Thanks mate.

Hey Dougmo when you got your evo did you get it with genuine mitsu keys or just dodgy copies?

it came with a crappy aftermarket dodgy copies

if it helps anybody trying to get one cut, the number on the key is M373

Well, i said over the counter, i want another key exactly like i have now for a cc lancer gsr at penfold mitsu, she just quoted cc lancer over the phone... ill have to see tomorrow i guess. My key only says Mitsubishi on it, no symbol or anything...

Ok, got the key finally from Penfold Mitsubishi, somehow didnt put through the order, no fuss but.

Heres the pic's of the spare key for those interested.
Exactly like my original :)
I just need to get it cut now.

I was lucky that when I bought my CC coupe it had the Key number written inside the factory booklet, so apparently its a code to get a key recut to factory specs instead of being a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy...

oh thats dam lucky, my car didnt come with a manual when i bought it, so id have nfi what code mine is.

key

my evo 1 key is genuine im pretty sure and its different to that picture. mine has the mitsu symbol that lights up and if I hold the key with infra red part to the hole in my drivers door handle and push the rubber bit it locks and unlocks the car

Really? So did it come with a central locking remote too?

My evo3 came with the original central locking remote but not the original mitsu key. I have a mongoose alarm now though so don't use the remote... I have never heard of that little infra red thing you mentioned.

Yeah mine has the infra red key as well.. I wont be needing it though cause of the alarm, but i wonder if the actual key itself is the same!! i presume it is!!

i also have the original key with the infra red button on it but ive disconnected mine as its one of the easy ways to break into the car. remember reading about it in one of the NZ sites. all they have to is "catch" the infra red beam and easy access to your car. id suggest everyone that doesnt use it open up the door trim and disconnect it
