4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

Sounds like a common Evo cut out issue.. which is a malfunctioning cam position sensor. I think your Nimbus has the identical part as an evo. I know the Crank AS code has come up, but that happens on Evos as well when the Cam sensor dies! Pretty easy to swap out compared to the crank sensor.. Got any Evo mates you can borrow one from ?? , before you go to the trouble of the crank sensor .

I just checked the 'space wagon' service manual, and it says:

Code No.23 Camshaft position sensor system
So it looks like you might be right blackvr. They are $125 on ebay, (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MITSUBISHI-CAM-SENSOR-EXPRESS-LANCER-NIMBUS-OUTLANDER-TRITON-PAJERO-iO-PROTON-/310452247736?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4848655cb8) I don't know anyone with one, but the chart on that ebay auction does show it is the same on evos, triton, outlander, pajero etc.

As you have noticed. There is a heap of cars with these sensors. Not personally familiar but I would think most mitsi 2000 and newer. Or if looking on us ebay, any 2g or 3g sensor.

Even jaycar do a hall effect sensor that might work.

It's just a hall effect sensor? I'm surprised they fail.
I just checked and the other car has the same sensor, swapping them now and see how it goes.

Well, I have swapped the Cam Position Sensor out with the other car, and have been driving it around all day and it seems to be running okay now, so fingers crossed!
Codes for the Nimbus below for any other poor sucker who needs them.
Putting a paper-clip between pin1 and pin4 of the ODBII socket did work and the engine check light flashed out the codes. The socket was under the steering wheel on the left hand side of the foot-well.
Thanks to everyone that helped me out and put up with my stoopid questions on this, it means I can actually take the kids somewhere this school holidays.

Hey, just send the 6 pack over for my diagnosis !! LOL. I diagnosed a bent conrod yesterday over the phone, even though the guy was trying to tell me it was a hydraulic lifter issue . I was right ..

The sensors arent too hard to get.. you should be able to get one locally pretty easy. Or i can post a genuine Mitsi one over for $125 inc post. I keep a couple around as they are a common issue .

Thanks, I have a ton of work to do to the other car, so I'll probably wait and get a sensor for it once the other work is done.
