I've seen reference made to using Nachi skate bearings to replace the rubber bushes in the shifter linkage cables but haven't found PNs or pics. Has anybody got further details around this?

I've done the skateboard bearing mod using cheap bearings I got off eBay. They don't really spin in the end of the linkage so it's not important how "high end" the bearings are. The rod will rotate within the centre of the bearing anyway so you're not really using the bearings as they are just working as a bush.

I had a hard time getting mine to fit, but managed to press them in using a G clamp. Apparently there is a smaller size bearing that pushes in easier but as far as I know skateboard bearings only come in one size.

Also, you might need to pack the linkage with a few washers, unless you manage to get two bearings in each - I found this too difficult and just used washers.

Overall an awesome easy mod, makes shifting so much nicer.

Are you guys talking about bushes inside the cabin? i.e. not the bushes at the gearbox? If so, thats genius to use skate bearings!

What about the 4-8 little plastic "bushes" that form part of the shifter itself? I find these tend to create a lot of slop too.

i have some machined aluminum bushes in mine got them on ebay. they are the right thickness and held in with a circlip i seem to be only able to find them bundled with a short shifter for evo 4+ now

Thats covered in another thread with part numbers from Mitsubishi listed in the thread.

Thanks for the link Trav. I've placed an order with them - hopefully they arrive before the end of the month.

Link doesn't work Travis.
I assume this is replacement of:
MB949743
MB949744

I changes all other bushes yesterday including the gearbox end linkage cable bushes - second best modification ever.
I still have a tiny amount of play in the shifter.
Ill go through the process of changing these bushes; however my eyes tell me that minuscule amount of play is from the cap / bushing at the bottom of the upper gearshift link (see attachment).
I replaced this cap/bushing with a new one (MB307949) when doing all others.
